Merill Lynch though going to report bad losses. But Singapore Government is buying a stake, right ? They see golden  opportunity to buy something at a much discounted price !
*
This isn't really the main motive for them to enter stake. There's a lot of reason for them to acquire stake in a company.

I believe Fed got no other choice but to cut rate.

Bush Govt got no choice but to move fast to come out with rescue package.

Not sure about the future of the company. But recent involvement in speculating hedging is not a good move. A company can make tons of profit or bankrupt because of this derivative (options).

Other than this, the company got strong fundamental and clearly advantages in home country as there are no other no frill airliner.

Likely to be roller coaster cos investors sentiment and level of confidence.

Added on January 17, 2008, 10:52 pmNEW YORK (AP) -- Wall Street rose modestly in early trading Thursday, lifted by hopes the economy will dodge a recession through new rate cuts and government stimulus efforts.

Investors were optimistic with Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke headed for Capitol Hill to give his views of a possible stimulus package. Sen. Charles Schumer, D.-N.Y., has said the chairman supports a plan in general.

Added on January 17, 2008, 10:59 pmBernanke already has sent strong signals it could reduce rates for a fourth straight time, possibly by as much as half a percentage point

Recession at US' doorstep- that is the main concern of investors all over world.

I think there's a slim chance that China might be bidding for Rio Tinto.
They just walked out of a iron ore talk claiming pricing is getting ridiculous.

alivemch,

DJIA closed down 300+ points.. S&P down 40points..
Let HSI plunge 2000 points today..

Wish come true..

*alamak, my sis account again.. kapitan

Actually HSI-C1 has lost its attraction due to high premium. It should be at 36cents even with yesterday's closing. HSI-C1 perform best when at a premium of less than 10%.

But it is also tempting for investors with big cash reserve to look out for quality stocks. Shall they buy slowly down ?
