And is the camera's performance acceptable?
*
If you look in the previous thread, many people complaint about the green tint problem affecting photographs taken with the P1i. It only affects like a part of the photo, usually the bottom-right section of the photograh. I find this unacceptable as it cannot even be fixed properly with Photoshop. There are people complaining about this in other forums and it is confirmed it is a hardware problem, not firmware. However, not sure if newer batches of P1i might have this problem or not. Also, some lucky P1i owners do not have this problem too when they bought the first batch, IIANM.

Thanks for the tips. I am looking for a 'power phone' with a good camera.

I am loving my P990i for its capabilities, but hating it for its sluggishness due to its lack of RAM.
*
The P1i has more RAM and a faster processor. It will be faster, but not by a lot due to the limitation of the Symbian UIQ 3 operating system.
I think better if you just keep your P990i. The P990i is a lot better compared with the P1i when it comes to making calls and typing out quick SMS due to the flipped mode.

Same for my P990i, I almost always use the phone in flipped mode because it feels so much faster than the non-flip mode. It is just like using a K750i/K800i. I think you know this too. biggrin.gif

Any update on the green tint issue?
I am so bothered still. SIGH

I can say that that is the only thing keeping me from getting this phone to replace my P990i. sweat.gif
Sigh.

I went to the authorized SE service center, I'm told there's no solution YET on the camera issue. They don't have any other camera module to exchange cos is all the same. I'm told to wait while they will pass this matter to the SE. Heard all cybershot having the same problem, but is the yellow tint. mad.gif Any other solution on this?
*
I don't there there's a solution as the problem should be hardware-related.
I've been searching everywhere online for a way to fix it because I also want to buy a P1i.
But then I can't seem to find anyone with a solution to fix it. sad.gif

According to the service personnel, many cybershots models have the same problem. Is that true? This is a serious quality control issue. Can't believe it happens in a Top Japan corporate.  mad.gif
*
I don't think so. The K800i/K810i does not have this problem. Not sure about the rest.
But the problem is so obvious, I can't believe their QC passed it.

Well, I think they aren't making that much money anyway. A lot of their models are nowhere near compare to rivals such as Nokia.

SONY has a reputation of mass producing garbage imaging sensor. remember the case where all the CCD sensor in almost every major brand camera have to be replaced? It's a SONY
*
Yeah. I remember that. lol. Furthermore, those sensors were used as OEM in Canon cameras too. sweat.gif

Should be getting this phone soon but the green tint is holding me back.

Funny thing is, I was playing around with this phone and K850 at the SE shop.  Ended up keep touching the icons (messaging, phonebook, etc) on the K850 screen and wondering why it wont open.....until my gf snapped me out of it.

LOL HARD
*
green tint holding me back too. and current owners are furious over it, almost every forum people complaining. laugh.gif
it'll be nice to have at least a camera with autofocus and proper colours for me, as i don't always want to lug around my huge dslr cam everywhere i go. sweat.gif

hi everyone, juz got my phone back today. the shop claimed that the AP company had repaired the phone for me, but what i c is that the green monster still exist. so i guess the ap cant really look into this matter as they cant have the lens module from sony ericsson(and i suppose they cant get the part from elsewhere....who knows). and i had asked the sony ericsson service centre, they claimed that they can help on the repair as request by customer. and the cost of changing the camera module is around RM210. what i have in mind is that i wont go to ap for the claim anymore, i will rather straight go to service centre if they can really solve the issue.

Someone mentioned that he sent his Midland (under warranty) P1i to change the camera module and SESC said they don't do it or something.

Same reason why I'm keeping my P990i as well. smile.gif

The flip-closed P990i is just awesomely FAST to use, and P1i in no way can beat that when calling and SMSing with one hand.

And due to the horrendous green tint problem in the P1i, the P990i's camera is far better than it.

The P990i has a larger screen too.

However, I still like the P1i due to its amazing QWERTY keyboard and I just hate my P990i's QWERTY as I have big fingers. And this is what I love about the P1i. I'm just waiting for the darn green tint issue to be solved.

Just got mine few days ago, and still playing with it. I wish it has the red button like Nokia N-Series where it close everything in just one button. Now I have to constantly end task in the task manager. Is there any way out for that?

Hold the 'back' button next to the jogdial for the same effect. smile.gif

Just wondering if the green tint problem is still there? Heard it is reduced in the latest firmware.

Can anyone with the latest firmware please post a picture of a A4 paper taken with the P1i? thanks.

I'd like to see how it is now.

Yalo. But most people who own P990 dont think of changing their P990 to P1 leh.. nod.gif
*
Yup. That's me. tongue.gif
The P990i's firmware has stabilized it a lot and it can work stable now, although the memory shortage means that heavy users should just go for P1i instead. But if you are a really heavy user, Symbian UIQ 3 won't suit u, only Windows Mobile can. laugh.gif

But if P1i's camera didn't suck, I surely would've bought it to replace my P990i. But now due to the green/red tint problems, to me the P1i is just like a M600i, a PDA phone w/o a camera.

but as for me, the camera although there is some problem (for me minor only)..still produce good n nice image..although it cannot compete with the likes of k800/k810 but the later are camera centric phones...
*
actually, if the P1i did not have tint problems, I would say it is on par with K800i/K810i. biggrin.gif

I dont mind about phone camera la..coz i have my own Sony digicam lo. hehe..as long as the phone wouldnt lag, then everything will be ok for me lo..hehe  rclxms.gif

yeah. if you don't need the camera, the P1i is a pretty good buy still, because the keyboard is just awesome and it has good build quality.

so sad for me that I really want a workable camera. sad.gif
