I just got this phone on Friday and I have a problem the last 2 days which I did not noticed a day later. When I look at my call record list, it does not show the caller name or who ever I was calling. Where as the earlier list show the name.

So then when I check the Contact View, I realised that I can't see the SIM Contact at all. After I on and off a few time and taking out the SIM card a few time, it seem to be able to detect my SIM. I swapped with another SIM card and phone, and my SIM card is perfectly fine! I can make call, Web, etc except for this reading my SIM. Luckily I can sync my Outlook Contacts to the P1i so I can still access all my number but this is no fun. Then after a few off and on, my SIM can be read again!

This is frustrating!

BTW, about that black triangle, its meant to be a locator for your handwriting. If you write below that triangle point, it will be lower cap, if you write where the triangle is pointing, its upper cap, if you write above the triangle, it will be numeric.

Guess what I found more on the SIM card not being read. Apparently it does but you got to wait each time you switch on, at least 1-2 mins. So if you on it in the morning, it will take a bit of time to read the SIM contact. You may not noticed it if you switch on and do your phone call few mins later!

However it always revert back to PHONE CONTACT instead of SIM folder view after you shut down. Not sure if you all detected this. Set to SIM CONTACT view, and then switch it off and then on again and see the contact immediately to see if its CONTACT or SIM view.

2ndly, the ALARM does not ring when the phone is off! Is this normal? Its should rang even if the phone is off!

Thanks for all the help! Phew, at least now I know the quirkyness of this P1i is ok! almost hantar balik to the kedai on this.

All my contact is in my outlook calendar. I will just default everything to CONTACT folder and no more SIM since its soooo SLLLLLOOOWW and seems to hang..

As for the Alarm I was thinking about that flight mode too. A bit surprised to see that its doesn't work when its off... unlike the previous SE phone that I have k800 which perhaps different from all this symbion P1i.

Overall I'm happy with the phone and you all has been great and helpful. I'm updating the SEUS now.

The one came with the CD in my box is 1.19 if I recalled off hand now.

Yes I have similar situation as Perioeci. I just updated my firmware with SEUS and everything works well. Actually I have to use the latest PC SUITE as well ie 1.4.4 as the earlier version with the CD cannot work with the P1i after FM upgrade.

So when I sync my Outlook mail, I got that chinese character inbox for my outlook mail as well....can I change it to english?

As for the photo reset count, I think it has to do with the selecting Auto Reset function in the camero mode. YOu need to off that. I remember even the K800 and normal digicam have the same function.

I have not download and delete yet but I have taken a few and deleting them from my phone memory card and the file nos continue going up ward and not skipping back to earlier empty file nos. So i have like file 1,5,6,9, 11, 15, etc etc...

BTW, when you are connected to Wifi and surfing, how do you know you are not using GSM/3G? Just want to ensure I'm surfing on the free WIFI instead of maxis GSM/3G.....

I just sent my P1i back to the shop for support. It can't read the SIM Contact at all after I off and on the phone.

Though I have move all my contact to the phone but the phone essentially still will read from the SIM and because its some how never could despite more than 5 mins, (though I can make and received call, can send SMS and received but can't read them.. access denied or incomplete information etc). So when the phone can read the SIM, everything function normally!

The indication I get is when I make call or received call, I can't see the caller name, only caller phone nos. But when the phone does read the SIM contact correctly, I can see the caller name, and the SMS sender....

So it will take 1 week to have my phone back. I really like the phone! The shop suspect SW problem instead of HW. I'm not sure! since I already updated the FW to the latest one from SEUS. Its have some improvement ie the triangle is transparent and the language selection is EN instead of chinese character etc.

But the problem remain from day 1.

We shall see what happen next week when it returned!

So you have the exact problem I have huh??.. do you have to master reset regularly?

Also have you upgraded your FW? Which one you are using now? Since mine is AP, its chinese version.

I wonder if the sales & services realised this trick of Master reset. I hope all is fine when it return sometime this week!

For the photo numbering, once you downloaded, it will reset to Zero, however to avoid duplication and confusion on your downloaded file management, you should chose reset in the camera mode. What this will is the P1i will create another subfolder within the Camera so that when you down and sync, you can create a folder on your PC/Notebook.

The pain start when you try to merge all these photo together. You need to rename them which is a pain in the neck!

In the camera mode, there is a file reset option, you have to chose on or off. I barely played with it last week but can't check further now as mine was sent back to shop for FW reflash due to unable to read SIM Contact.

Will check later when phone is returned.

Got my phone back from service center after 1 week of usage as it can't read from SIM despite like hours. Now seems ok even I on and off couple of time.

BTW, when I surf with Wifi, I can't seem to log on when I key in the past word and user name to any forum that I belong to! For example I can read Low Yat forum but unable to log in.

Also the chinese fonts and language on Email Folder despite I'm on english mode. Mine is AP chinese set.

Added on March 24, 2008, 9:26 amGuess what? Its the same problem again when I off my phone just now for the first time after I sync with my Outlook, Email, and Contact.

So I suspect something is off here. Either I should not sync at all, or just skip the contact. Really annoying. Master reset fix it all but it also wipe out all my setting and sync info especially on Calendar and Email.

I will try again to see if its make the same problem without the Contact Sync.

And while after Master Reset get it going again, when I try to re set my sound and theme, everything wipe out as I can't chose any other sound in the sound file. But the default melody is different though but I can't see it to chose anything else. Also there are no more other themes which exist when I bought it at first.

Once you all move the contact from SIM to phone contact, do you delete the SIM contact or leave it as it is and just read from phone contact?

Apparently on the P1i even you copy all to phone contact and view from it, when you switch off and on, P1i will still access the SIM. And during this start up, when you make a call with the Phone Contatc, you only able to see the phone nos and not the name until P1i complete reading your SIM Contact despite that you have copy all to phone contact.

Try this experiment. Send an SMS to your self before shutting down and don't view it. Then shut down and on again. Immediately made a call with your phone contact and see if you can see the name of the person? and also try to send sms to your self and see what happen. You prolly can't see the sender name or the person you calling and may not able to read that SMS.

I know many recommended not to switch off and all but I wonder if some of you detected this bug.

But if you waited for a few mins, you repeat the above and you can see all the name and the SMS again.

Mine have this bug and I suspect I'm not alone.

Anyhow I send it again today to service center as today I after I master reset, all my THEMES and RINGTONE GONE!!! Sign!

Yes its on the latest firmware. The moment I sync it, this problem happen. It actually happen on the original FW when I bought and even after I updated the FW. With the updated FW, some how the original PC suite doesn't work any more. I downloaded the latest PC suite from SEUS to get it sync.

Apparently if I skip the contact Sync with my outlook its less of a problem. Anyhow it went back to the service center. I expect them to fix it good!

Also its got the same problem like one of the user here, even I'm on English language, the Folder on display for my email inbox is chinese character.

As for Ngou on Nokia 2MP better pictures, did you try to expand it to your PC/notebook desktop or just making comment on viewing it from phone? Try that first.

I was using the K800i and I say the P1i are very close behind. Infact the Macro Shot was so much better than Nokia 6500 Slide which also 3.2 that come with CZ lens! The picture does looks sharp on my phone display but not necessarily so when its on larger size compare to K800 or the P1i. Its very similar in range with the k800 edge out a bit!

The Nokia tend to over colorize on skin color rendering them either too fair or pucat despite best effort to get a different white balance.

The problem is, that SIM contact is not ok after I do PC Suite sync with my Outlook for CONTACT. Otherwise its ok.

If its get into this trouble, I can get around it by MASTER RESET but in the process of MASTER RESET, I lost all the P1i original themes and sound files which are pre loaded from factory. Strangely the default melody is different for each notification, but when I want to chose it, I only have 1 sound file ie the SONY ERICSSON Tone, and thats it!.

So it is not ok after that, hence its back to the shop. Even they can't explain what happen....hopefully nothing major.

Finally got my P1i back after 2.5 weeks in the AP service center to fix that Sim card reading error and loosing all SE factory themes and ring tone with master reset and then to go bonker when I on and off the phone.

Have some weird issues but no call drop or reception. All else are great. Decided to flash it to english version, so its no more chinese function. Suppose to be more stable. A tad slower but seems ok so far even after sync with outlook except contact sync.

My finger cross for the last 24 hrs now...

How to turn on the cursive or continous writing? I remember I can set it on but after flashing it to English UK version, can't seem where to activate it.

I need help on this.

When I sync my Outlook with the P1i, every thing is ok until it come to calendar/appt came from different timezone. For example when I have a concall sent from US for 8am on Wednesday as shown on my Notebook Outlook, it will be shown as 9am on Tuesday on the P1i after sync. No changes on my notebook as I do a 1 way sync from notebook to phone.

I have the same problem on the K800 as well. Only for calendar invite came from different time zone.

Any idea how to fix this?
