theoretically more plugins you use, the more things the web server has to do before showing you the page BUT this depends on what the plugin does.

on optimal condition, it shouldn't be something so noticeable.

say you have 200 visitors a day. going from 2 plugins to 10 plugins could actually increase the total resources use per page loaded.

however it's not likely that the increase would be one that screws up the server unless something's wrong with the plugin.

Of coz using more plugin will give more load to the server. BUT, it depend on what type of plugin that you're using. If the plugin runs whenever a user view user site, there will be extra load to the server.

So far, I havent encounter any plugin that give the server extreme load, unless the plugin is not properly written.

you need to set permission in ur theme files. keyword: CHMOD. You can do this using your FTP client. (Most client will support this feature) But this depend on whether your host allow you to change the permission or not.

It depends on the theme you're using. they usually define what font type to use in which area. You can edit it in the Stylesheet CSS file

For the Word to wordpress problem, Wordpress Visual Editor has a "Paste from Word" function. Press the last button "Show/Hide Kitchen Sink (Alt+Shift+Z)"
and then you will see the button with a Word icon

You can set different pages/categories to have different themes.

An example would be http://voize.my & http://voize.my/minimal which is a page with a different theme.

To make your category with different theme, you have to make a new category-2.php file. The number is the ID of the category

Sos : Category Templates

This theme - Red Carpet by DeluxeThemes - as a different template for the Video and the photos category

in single.php, they put this
QUOTE
<?php get_custom_post(); ?>

Then in functions.php they define this function
QUOTE
/********************************************************************
loading a custom single post template
********************************************************************/
function get_custom_post() {

global $post, $carpet;
$get_post_cat = wp_get_post_categories($post->ID);
foreach($get_post_cat as $catid ) {
$cat = get_category($catid);
$the_cat = get_category_parents($cat->cat_ID, FALSE, ' ', FALSE);
}

$video = get_cat_name($carpet['videos_id']);
$gallery = get_cat_name($carpet['photos_id']);

$search_a = '/^'. $video .'/';
$search_b = '/^'. $gallery .'/';

if (preg_match($search_a, $the_cat)) {
  include TEMPLATEPATH. '/single_videos.php';
} elseif (preg_match($search_b, $the_cat)) {
  include TEMPLATEPATH. '/single_photos.php';
} else {
  include TEMPLATEPATH. '/single_news.php';
}

}

then they have the single_videos.php and single_photos.php with a custom template.

RedCarpet was available as a free download before but not any more now sad.gif

ok thanks again.

so i came out with this idea, make a custom menu or navigation for each category. then point the category to any post within the category..so whenever i click the category it will go straight to the post instead of category page first.. just some method to bypass the category page

anyway i found this 2 plugin might do the trick but cant figure how to use it sweat.gif

So you want people to click on the category name and get brought to a random post within that category?

I'm using this code to call 3 posts from the category (id = 23).
CODE

<?php $myPosts .= "0"; add_filter('posts_where', 'post_strip'); ?>
<?php $showpost = new WP_query(); $showpost->query('showposts=3&cat=23'); ?>
<?php if ($showpost->have_posts()) : ?>
<?php while ($showpost->have_posts()) : $showpost->the_post(); $myPosts .= $post->ID . ","; ?>

<a href="<?php the_permalink(); ?>" title="<?php the_title(); ?>" target="_blank"> <?php the_title(); ?></a>

<?php endwhile; ?>
<?php endif; ?>

<?php remove_filter('posts_where', 'post_strip'); ?>

im not sure if you can tweak it to show just the random post. Mayb u can try with this (change category ID) in line 2
CODE

<?php $myPosts .= "0"; add_filter('posts_where', 'post_strip'); ?>
<?php $showpost = new WP_query(); $showpost->query('showposts=1&cat=23'); ?>
<?php if ($showpost->have_posts()) : ?>
<?php while ($showpost->have_posts()) : $showpost->the_post(); $myPosts .= $post->ID . ","; ?>

<a href="<?php the_permalink(); ?>" title="<?php the_title(); ?>" target="_blank">NAME OF CATEGORY</a>

<?php endwhile; ?>

<?php endif; ?>

<?php remove_filter('posts_where', 'post_strip'); ?>

not so sure if it'll work tho

1. One is hosted on Wordpress server (wordpress.com) like Blogger and the other is self-hosted (download and install it on your own server)

2. Normally, you download the theme in a ZIP. Unzip it and it should be in a folder, "theme-folder". Upload this folder into your /your-domain/wp-content/themes/. Then, login and go to Appearance (WP 2.7.1) and look for the theme. Click it and in the pop-up top right you'll see "Activate theme".

*Note: Wordpress.com doesn't support custom themes which you download and plan to upload later.

3. Yup, as explained above.

4. Yup again, explained above.

5. If you're on Wordpress 2.7.1, it's in the Appearance menu on the sidebar.

6. Free web hosting sucks, and if you still insist on using it, good luck looking for one.

The easiest way is replace this picture

http://www.4cakesinacup.com/wp-content/the...es/headerbg.png

to this

http://www.4cakesinacup.com/wp-content/gal...blog/header.png

using the same file name. headerbg.png

the code <A href=""></a> is for LINKING. not for displaying images. You should edit the header.php like so
CODE

<div id="header">
<h1 id="logo"><a href="<?php echo get_option('home'); ?>/"> </a></h1>

This will remove the Blog name and Description on your logo (because you already have it in your new header).

Then you should edit the CSS file. Go to the Theme Editor then click Stylesheet (default.css). On Line 3

CODE

#header {background:url(images/headerbg.png) no-repeat;}

Change the link inside url() to your url, like this

CODE

#header {background:url(http://www.4cakesinacup.com/wp-content/gallery/blog/header.png) no-repeat;}

that should do the trick biggrin.gif

Have you tried searching their forum if someone had asked the same question?

Or, did you only create a new topic? doh.gif

Anyway, according to their theme page it's widget supported but maybe only supporting Wordpress default widgets. Therefore, is there a specific plugin you're using with widget capability and you're trying to get it to work in Arrass?

You look at the source code then copied the code right?

Well, he wont see that piece of code in his coding because its automatically generated. As in, he sees something like this
CODE
<?php wp_get_archives('type=postbypost&limit=10&format=html'); ?>

which will then list down the post one by one (type) for the most recent 10 posts (limit) and put the <li> and </li> html tags before and after it (format)

U just use Adobe Flash, add a few pictures and make it fade in and out.

The menu is a standard drop down menu (not flash)

to be honest, you already have problems just editing a theme, and u want to create your own theme?

You can come up with a design, then read up the wordpress documentation on http://codex.wordpress.org/
There are clear examples on how to use the codes.

You can also google for tutorials

That is not created by Flash.
That is javascript. Jquery I think?

EDIT: No it's not by Jquery. It's PHP O_O

After viewing, reading, observing and findings, I've noticed we've a number of want to be (not wannabe) Wordpress theme designers in Malaysia. But I'd like to have a serious discussion about wordpress theme development.

Goldy, make this a new topic if you think it should be later.

My discussion is about building commercial Wordpress themes. Which means it's either customized per client OR made-to-sell.

1. Do you create custom Wordpress themes from scratch (design, XHTML, etc)? OR, modify an existing theme?

2. Currently, do you sell the themes you have created?

3. Are the themes you are selling, custom or modified?

4. Personally, what is your opinion about designers who sell modified themes who were works of someone else?

5. What do you believe is the best method(s) to address the issue of designers who are selling modified themes or non-original works?

As mentioned, this is a serious discussion about a soon to be problem. And it's best to find a prevention, if ultimately a cure can't be found. smile.gif

Yes, im totally agree with u ets.

Me myself created my first theme from existing template and thinking to sell it. but after read on etsuko comment on my thread regarding building the repo first i've changed my mind.

okay speaking of template, i have submitted one theme to wordpress but there is one problem with the theme, here i quote from the email;

QUOTE
Since twitter and delicious links need to be set by the user to work there should be a theme option in wp-admin to do that

im not clear about this..anyone know how to do that?

You've to learn to write a custom function normally added to functions.php. The function will later also add an option into the Appearance so a user who downloads the theme may only enter the necessary (username/API key) to activate twitter and delicious.

1. I create from scratch.
2. Yeah, I sell some and I collaborate for free release on some.
3. I do it custom, based on what I have on my mind.

Of course you can do self hosted wordpress.

All you need is some time and money,

1. Find hosting that offers shared hosting services. Buy it.
2. Upload your own wordpress scripts
3. Manage it like how you did on Blogger

Buy a new host. Point your domain to the new host and add it in the Cpanel.

Then install the latest Wordpress. (Usually they'll provide you with either Fantastico or Site Software so you
don't need to waste your time downloading/uploading/editing Wordpress files)

Then once you are in Wordpress, go to the "Import" page, key in your WordPress.com details and all your posts
and comments would be imported to your new Wordpress.

You are now free to install new themes and plugins. Enjoy!

I am also in consideration of migrating to wordpress.
I need to think carefully whether I should really migrate or is it necessary smile.gif

If you would looking at which hosting, you might read what Wordpress recommended list.
http://wordpress.org/hosting/

As for me, I already has Webhostingpad.com that came in Fantastico built-in. smile.gif

the page that i go to write new content, editing and stuff is still the same?

i still log in to wordpress dashboard and see everything?

features such as akismet and stats will still be there right?

yes everything will be the same. The difference is that everything is managed by you. If something happens, no one can help you, but you yourself and the forum. In fact, you get to have more customization which is more of a pro than a con.

It depends on how well you do your transfer, if you know the correct steps, then it is possible to do it with 0 downtime.

1. Domain takes a maximum of 48 hours to update it's nameserver.
2. Did you purchase the domain name via wordpress? Usually, if you bought it yourself and there are no contract, then you are definitely free to transfer to another registrar.

Hi

For wordpress go to your dashboard> the tools> Export feature and you can download the XML file, it is rather straightforward and for importing it is also the same , choose import from wordpress and upload the XML file you downloaded and it will now contain all the posts and comments.

It could probably the 'shortcode', a special tag (something like BBCODE) to represent something. More here: http://codex.wordpress.org/Shortcode_API

may be i can go read more first then may be i can tell more...

so far i can only say, that is something i saw inside a email.html(sent to customer when customer buy product)...

inside the html, something like this

<html>
Hi [##user##],

This is your order of [##product##], with oder id [##id##]
</html>

i can only guess it is something like a variable...but not sure how to use it and where's the value come from...

Ah, it's a 'template' or collection of 'identifiers'. The content of email.html will be parsed and each identifier will be replaced with the intended values. It is also safe to assume these as variables.

[##user##] will be replaced with the User's name.
[##id##] will be replaced with the product ID

etc

These identifiers are designed by the original author. There is probably a script to read the html file, replace their values and send the complete email content to the user. The process probably triggered after a customer completed his purchase.

Hi, i found out that it is a variable with the value of 'Enter your Name'.

Is it a variable of name "Lang" which is an associate array with two values inside which is "Enter your Name" and "wpShop"?

why is there underscores?

Fyi, im a java guy, this looks quite alien to me

Thanks.

Hello guys !

I have just started using wordpress . I have only little bit of knowledge about codings as I'm still learning it .

I want to have a custom background . The thing that is stopping me is the FTP account . I have neither cPanel or FTP account ... Google said we can register a FTP account on it but I have no luck .

I think this is the only way to upload a theme . Any ideas ?

Btw , I'm using wordpress.COM if that helps differenciate.

Try going to http://yourblog.wordpress.com/wp-admin/the...hp?page=editcss. Then in the textarea add:
CODE
background-image: url(http://the.url.to.your.image/);
background-repeat: no-repeat;

The comment form? Or is it a custom form?
If you're going to use a custom form, just add:
if($_POST['submit-data']) {
//do stuff
}

in functions.php of the theme.

About the comments, you need to learn the functions first.

my case is like this,

i have a theme build by someone else, it's a ecommerce theme.
before a customer confirm the order, can input some remarks which is a text area.
i go and check the file which has the similar function where there is text area for input and save into db,
in tat file itself, i cant see any method handling the text area when the form is submit...
i duno how it get the value from that text area and how it is then stored into db...

fyi, im a java web developer, find it different from what i normally do.

thanks

Added on May 24, 2010, 12:49 amHi, i read about this WordPress Settings API Tutorial

if not mistaken,

let say if i

<?php add_settings_field('plugin_text_string', 'Plugin Text Input', 'plugin_setting_string', 'plugin', 'plugin_m

and then in my html

<?php function plugin_setting_string() {
$options = get_option('plugin_options');
echo "<input id='plugin_text_string' name='Plugin text Input' size='40' type='text' value='{$options['text_string']}' />";
} ?>

whenever i submit the form, wordpress will auto process and save watever value in the "Plugin text Input".

is that correct?

before a customer confirm the order, can input some remarks which is a text area.
i go and check the file which has the similar function where there is text area for input and save into db,
in tat file itself, i cant see any method handling the text area when the form is submit...
i duno how it get the value from that text area and how it is then stored into db...

fyi, im a java web developer, find it different from what i normally do.

thanks

Added on May 24, 2010, 12:49 amHi, i read about this WordPress Settings API Tutorial

if not mistaken,

let say if i

<?php add_settings_field('plugin_text_string', 'Plugin Text Input', 'plugin_setting_string', 'plugin', 'plugin_m

and then in my html
<?php function plugin_setting_string() {
$options = get_option('plugin_options');
echo "<input id='plugin_text_string' name='Plugin text Input' size='40' type='text' value='{$options['text_string']}' />";
} ?>

whenever i submit the form, wordpress will auto process and save watever value in the "Plugin text Input".

is that correct?
*
It looks like it should work. The data will be saved to the wp-options table.

Another way to do it is by playing the 'meta data' or post meta or terms and taxonomies or simply 'custom fields'. A post can have 'unlimited' meta which we can insert through the 'custom fields' box (usually visible just under the editor during adding/editing a post). To examine a post with custom fields, we use the get_post_meta() function in the loop for example. But I prefer adding a custom meta box (add_meta_box()) rather than forcing user to use the 'custom fields' because it is more easier on the intended functionality and more control including custom CSS and JS. Lots of existing APIs such as add_action('save_post', 'my_func'); delete_post_meta(); update_post_meta(); can be used to gain control.

I just worked out a custom contact form, wasn't hard thanks to a whole lot of Wordpress hooks/functions.

Anyway of integrating Automattic Kismet/Akismet with the form?

I haven't personally tested it but the idea is to treat a contact form as comment. Because of the built-in akismet plug-in is built to protect spam from the comments form, we can channel the submitted data from the contact form to the comment system for example http://codex.wordpress.org/Function_Reference/wp_new_comment

That's a good idea but I wont be able to store it in another database, will clash with the other comments.
Anyway I'm looking at:
http://akismet.com/development/api/

Added on May 26, 2010, 10:36 pmOh wait, here is a class which easily lets you check for spam. Its all I can get right now:
http://www.achingbrain.net/stuff/php/akismet

Added on May 26, 2010, 11:44 pmDone, works great now.
Using: http://code.google.com/p/akismet-php-curl-class/

You can try sending me a <removed> email, it'll be labeled as spam

Its a separate installation. Alternatively, you can use Wordpress 3 Beta 2 and edit the wp-config.php file to enable WPMU in it.
Wordpress MU is being merged with Wordpress 3.0.

The simplest for non coder is:

1. Install the Capability Manager plugin
2. Add a new role

Manually assign user to his/her role & capability.

Take a look at these set of web templates in the Forum Nokia library providing a series of custom, styled, and tested mobile web components.
These components are suitable for most S60 3rd Edition and S60 5th Edition devices from Nokia and also are compatible with newer Series 40 WebKit and Maemo devices. You guys can either mix and match the components or use the full series to completely customise your mobile website or application.
Download it here http://bit.ly/dC0C2Y

Does your server support the PHP mail() function? Check with your host.
If it does and still doesn't work, try another plugin.

Im using Contact Form 7 before, but when I upgrade my WP to 3.0, the plugin is not usable anymore. Contact Form 8 also not compatible with WP 3.0. So I'll wait for the compatible version

I know how you feel, all those other plugins are so hard to use right? Try adding this into function.php of your theme file:
CODE
function getIsGd($url) {
   $isgd = file_get_contents('http://is.gd/api.php?longurl='.urlencode($url));
   return $isgd;
}
function postTweet($id) {
   $username = 'USERNAME-GOES-HERE';
   $password = 'PASSWORD-GOES-HERE';

   $post = get_post($id);
   if($post->post_type = 'post' && $post->post_status = 'publish') {
       $tweet = 'Blogged: '.$post->post_title.' '.getIsGd(get_permalink($post->ID));
       $host = "http://twitter.com/statuses/update.xml?status=".urlencode($tweet);
       $ch = curl_init();
       curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_URL, $host);
       curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_VERBOSE, 1);
       curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_RETURNTRANSFER, 1);

Sites like TwitterFeed/feedburner doesn't tweet about the new post straight away. The code snippet I provided above tweets it right away.

I've been using WordTwit. Had earlier problems but it's already resolved by the team. Love it because I can sync it to my Bit.ly account. smile.gif

I heard TwitterFeed is handy too but haven't gotten around trying it.

That really depends on the theme, do you mean the layout or the widgets?

Yep, you need a theme that has support for a footer-bar or whatever.
You can then add them in your WordPress admin panel.

Have a look at the Twenty Ten theme, it has that structure.

I know how you feel, all those other plugins are so hard to use right? Try adding this into function.php of your theme file:
CODE
function getIsGd($url) {
   $isgd = file_get_contents('http://is.gd/api.php?longurl='.urlencode($url));
   return $isgd;
}
function postTweet($id) {
   $username = 'USERNAME-GOES-HERE';
   $password = 'PASSWORD-GOES-HERE';

   $post = get_post($id);
   if($post->post_type = 'post' && $post->post_status = 'publish') {
       $tweet = 'Blogged: '.$post->post_title.' '.getIsGd(get_permalink($post->ID));
       $host = "http://twitter.com/statuses/update.xml?status=".urlencode($tweet);
       $ch = curl_init();
       curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_URL, $host);
       curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_VERBOSE, 1);
       curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_RETURNTRANSFER, 1);
       curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_USERPWD, "$username:$password");
       curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_HTTP_VERSION, CURL_HTTP_VERSION_1_1);
       curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_POST, 1);
       curl_close($ch);
   }
}
add_action('publish_post', 'postTweet');

*
Where to put your code?

Did you change the username and password? Make sure you have that theme activated. IDK but you could try WordTwit for advanced options.

It really depends on the theme, what theme are you using? Also check in the Options tab.

You don't need to change in the code for this. When you are adding a post, select the HTML Tab (next to visual tab on top of the text editor ) and add the following tag :

Attached Image

I had to use image coz the forum treats the tag as a bad html for some reason...anyway.

Remember, you have to add the tag on the HTML tab, not the visual tab.

This will automatically divide your post and add "READ MORE" link to it. That's all you need. Viva WordPress Simplicity!:thumbs:

Go to Appearance->Themes
Then look at the two big tabs, click the second tab(Install Themes).
After that you'll reach a page, look below those two big tabs. Click upload. Then upload the theme you wish to upload.

If you don't have a theme, just click search and search for a theme.

How do you maintain the line breaks for the image description?

Attached Image

I managed to pull it out, but it seems Wordpress (as usual) ignores the line breaks even when you hit Return in there. hmm.gif

How about a adding a special token like | to represent a line break? For example:

CODE
foo|bar|baz

CODE

$_post = & get_post( $id ); // $id is the attachment ID (integer)
$desc = $_post->post_content
$lines = explode('|', $desc);
echo implode( '<br />', $lines );

or

CODE

$_post = & get_post( $id ); // $id is the attachment ID (integer)
echo str_replace( '|', '<br />', $_post->post_content);

Why not just find where in the template that's being outputted and use nl2br() ?

It really depends. If you get more outside traffic go for something like Eleven2 or ThisWebHost but if you get local traffic, just go for local hosting companies. It's the speed factor.

I host my site at Eleven2 because I get more outside traffic compared to local traffic.

What theme are you using? Also, do you want the smooth scroll to top or just scroll to the top without animation?

Hey guys, my Wordpress keeps giving me this error whenever I try to use NextGen Gallery to upload images. ohmy.gif

CODE
Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 33554432 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 2284 bytes) in /home/keithtay/public_html/wp-content/plugins/nextgen-gallery/lib/gd.thumbnail.inc.php  on line 428

Any idea what it means? Lack of RAM on my server side?

EDIT: After further playing with the it, I've found out that whenever I upload images though the plugin, it failed to create any thumbnails, but the pictures are already stored on the server. I seem to be able to create thumbnails through the gallery after upload, though.

Never mind, I've found the answer on the internet. smile.gif

Hi,

it is called permalink, you can set it easily at wordpress admin panel.

You can choose a custom link structure.
for example, %category% or %postname%

Which plugin is best for Search Engine traffic welcome message (either above post in box or as pop-up)?

I've seen the WP Greet plugin, but also read some nasty stories about the performance.

Currently my blog is under wordpress.com..but i wish to get my own domain name. (www.example.com)

But if i wish to get a domain name out there, is it a must for me to get my own web hosting?

Can i get my own domain name but actually its still wordpress.com instead of .org?

Nope..you need hosting too..But that isn't that expensive anymore...you could always get a US server to host your site on. Best for local traffic is a local server; but that's perhaps more expensive...

You can just map your domain to WordPress.com

It is the premium theme functions.

You can achieve the same thing with these.

http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-post-thumbnail/

If the theme you're using now support feature image or thumbnail like Mystique, you don't need this plugin.

and

http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/simple-download-monitor/
Or
http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/download-manager/

and then,

edit your index.php or add a new file home.php then copy the whole code in your index.php before editing the home.php

To get the drop down category, just add another dynamic sidebar area and then add Categories widget or Custom Menus.

I'm not using that theme.

But you can try these ways.

Way 1: No Hard Coding, static homepage.

1. Create a page with title Home Page or whatever.
2. Change the Page Attributes at the Page Template into 1 column page (no sidebars).
3. Go to Settings -> Reading -> Front page displays -> A static page (select below) -> Front page: (Select the Home Page you created before hand)

This way, your homepage will be static and even if you create new post it will not be displayed in front page.

Way 2: Hard coding, dynamic homepage.
1. Appearance -> Editor -> index.php
2. Delete this line below.
3. Click update.

CODE
<?php get_sidebar(); ?>

Enjoy. thumbup.gif

1) To install a custom theme is easy. Go to Appearance, then Click the tab, install new theme. then choose from the various theme over the Wordpress theme database. If you download the theme on your hard drive, then click upload and then install the theme and don't forget to activate it.

Important: Only self hosted wordpress(Wordpress.org) are able to install custom theme.
You need a domain name and a webhosting for this.

2) You can put nuffnang ads by first registering your blog at Nuffnangss, grab the ads code then go to Appearance -> Widget -> Text.
Fill the title as what you want or leave it blank then in the body of the form, fill in the nuffnangs ads code and then click save.
The ads will appear on your sidebar, so make sure to choose the right size.

I don't understand what you try to achieve.

But let me tell you this.

WP-ecommerce, I've tried and working with it.

So my conclusion is, Wordpress is not suitable for e-commerce.

For ecommerce website, use an ecommerce script.

For example, you might want to try OpenCart or Magento.

OpenCart is as friendly user as WordPress. smile.gif

While Magento is... just like Joomla... Complicated but can achieve more features...

You need to edit the php.

I'm quite lazy to dig back my wp-ecommerce grave yard... sweat.gif

You try to make catalog website why don't just use Gallery type theme?

You don't need this plugin.

We only need this plugin because we want the ability for members to put into cart and checkout to paypal.

If you don't need this, find a gallery theme.

But if you still want this, have a nice hard coding.

You can try this, but I don't guarantee it works because I don't try it.
I just look at the code and assume.

edit wpsc-includes/wpsp_query.php

Find this;

CODE
function wpsc_the_product_price($no_decimals = false) {
global $wpsc_query;
$price = calculate_product_price($wpsc_query->product['id'], $wpsc_query->first_variations);
if(($wpsc_query->product['special_price'] > 0) && (($wpsc_query->product['price'] - $wpsc_query->product['special_price'] ) >= 0) && ($variations_output[1] === null)) {
 $output = nzshpcrt_currency_display($price, $wpsc_query->product['notax'],true, $wpsc_query->product['id']);
} else {
 $output = nzshpcrt_currency_display($price, $wpsc_query->product['notax'], true);
}
if($no_decimals == true) {
 $output = array_shift(explode(".", $output));
}
// echo 'NO DECIMALS VALUE:'.$no_decimals;
//echo "<pre>".print_r($wpsc_query->product,true)."</pre>";
return $output;
}

Change to;

CODE
function wpsc_the_product_price($no_decimals = false) {
//Yeap nothing.
}

under your own risk. wink.gif

Guys and gals. I have a website that is already up and running. I would like to add blog (it's a travel blog) in the same design. I have the .psd of course, but I also have the clean xhtml.

What would be a normal price to pay to have my current xhtml built into a WP theme?

Depends on your design.

From $30 to $100.

I can do basic coding for that range of price.

If you need more advance feature such as admin page, etc.
The price is increase of course. biggrin.gif

(All price in USD)

Thanks.

LOL?

How much would your professional charge would be?

I'm just an amateur so I don't know much about pricing.

But so far that's market price I know even at international level.

More than that, people will go to Indian programmers from India or Bangladesh which will charge maybe even less than what I was stating.

Beside, he said he already have the html files.

My job is just to convert it into wordpress theme.

For me it's not a tasky job...

So price range between $30 to $100 is just worth the time unless he wants more functionality then it will goes more than $100 depends on how many added functions he wants.

(Incase destfull didn't read... All currency is in USD)

let say you said that price, if you only have 10-15 of that job per month, can you survive? smile.gif

Don't said about India, Bangladesh or Pakistan.. thats because their cost it not same as us. And people at US, UK, SA etc doesn't even charge that but can survive.

I myself have a Pakistan dude working on my startup, KreativeThemes. We pay what he should get, not what the market price at their place

I see... I never think that.

10 job of $30 would be around RM900...

and each job which cost $30 will only cost me an hour work the most...

10 hour of work for RM900 is not bad eh for freelancer...

But I might change my perspective thou... since I am not so business minded yet.

So, my friend... It seems you are running your own company?

How much you're charging from html to wp theme like this?

Just guide me, newbie... thumbup.gif

The theme files are located under wp-content/themes/<theme folder>. You can either modify the file there, or change the permission of the theme files to 777 (writable) so that you can edit from the admin page.

Hi guys, i want to start a personal blog about me and my girlfriend(just being honest here), i tried HTML and CSS coding myself, it turned out great but somehow i never satisfies with it cuz of lack of photoshop and javascript/flash knowledge.

any themes i can use with 3.2.1 that have the option to a simple blog, which have the front page, a page that contains galleries(i want to add one album per time, to fill in the pictures whenever i want, and a place to tell the stories for each album(like maybe below the album and when clicked, will be directed to the full description page).

anything like that or similar, please advice. turned out building from scratch is so much pain..

one more question, can we remove the wordpress links/ theme links at the footer? i see my friend remove the wordpress link but no sure bout the theme though. i think theme link/creator cant be removed right?

but if you want to try it out yourself, upload the zip. and extract it after it already in your hosting.

Add javascript:void(0); in the href of the link or just remove the link altogether and just have text

http://www.elegantthemes.com/ does some nice themes with galleries, although they are premium themes but if you like to Torrent....

If you want to remove the wordpress link, find the file footer.php inside your themes folder and just delete the links/text you dont want.

You can either use the auto install fantatisco from your cpanel (like muyyaqdhom said), your host should have given your login details or download a ftp client like filezilla, enter your ftp details and then upload your files.

Hi all,

I dunno what correct term to use..how to 'register' your WP blog and get domain name?

I have a blog which mainly about my life as a student. Since I'm doing business and it is not related to my personal blog (because my blog talks abt girl's interest but I'm doing car accessories business), so I don't want to merge everything in one blog.

So my question is, what is the benefit of buying your own domain name and create your own site? can I have one site registered and another one just normal wordpress blog? and get them linked?

Bought your own domain for your business purposes will makes you look professional instead using free blog hosting (which is usually for "test"),
and back to your inquiries about linking up your registered site with your normal, do you means that you wanna integrate both in 1 domain?

Also with your own domain the site belongs to you, if you have a wordpress.com site it belongs to them and can be taken away from you at any time.

The domain name is recognition and credibility. For a business, you register it so that people know it's a tangible item. Just like any business in Malaysia, if your business is registered, it gives you some weight which the customer notes. If you're an unregistered business, the customer may be worried you'll run off with their money.

If you're using Wordpress.com, there's an optional add-on where they help you register a domain name.

On a personal note, registering a domain name for your personal use is an investment. Plus, it's a deterrent in case in the future someone decides to turn your name into a scam/phishing/porno website. LOL! tongue.gif

And as mentioned by another forumer, hosting your own blog means the data is with you.

Hope this answers your question.

Yes, you can also upload to Flickr. Flickr is a image hosting site, where you can upload and share your image. since you planning to build a self-hosted wordpress, you can just upload the pictures directly from your website.

Lightbox allow you to control the way you want to showcase your images. Nextgen also do the same as Lightbox but with more extra features. Here's a demo how NextGen works. http://nextgen-gallery.com/ I saw many WP website use Lightbox or Nextgen Gallery. biggrin.gif

For a photography based website, here's what you must know:

1. Get a hosting with a company that understands WordPress - website and system will be optimized accordingly, less headaches

2. Pick a light theme - Astra, OceanWP, Page Builder Framework

3. Choose a layout which emphasizes the visuals - free option has some appropriate ones to start with

4. If you want a more flexible gallery, check out plugins like WP Modula, Envira Gallery, FooGallery or NextGen.

5. Install and activate an image optimization plugin like; ShortPixel or TinyPNG

6. Install and activate a plugin like; Flying Images, to lazy load the images and serve them via CDN (in short it's to speed up the load time for your website)

7. Enable gzip compression (if you're using cPanel)

8. Install a caching plugin like Litespeed Cache (if server supports) or WP Fastest Cache or Simple Cache

Keep your photo filesizes less than 200kb. Width of 1400px is more than sufficient - 1920px is pushing it. If you really can't tahan and need higher resolution images, you may want to consider having WP Retina installed.

More than 60% of Internet users browse on their smartphones now, compared to the desktop. The ones who still do it from their desktop are either because of their profession, or an age group who is more comfortable on larger screens.

I would also recommend uploading the photos to your website, than embedding from Flickr. Because each Flickr embed creates a request and the more requests you need to serve, the slower your website will end up loading.

Lastly, you do not need to upload all your photos from Flickr. You should be highlighting your best works - that's a marketing tip for you. smile.gif

I hope this has helped and wishing you all the best.
