What are good undervalued equities in Malaysia?

E.g. High cash per share, low price / book value...

Any suggestions?

How about shell, not much price movement, with low P/E and high dividen, this will not make you rich but a safe investment.

PE is simplify term is how many year the company profit can recoup back your initial capital, so lower better or higher better? tongue.gif smile.gif

Typical undervalued equities would be:

1. Low PE (this can be complicated as PE generally is a past record, one or market always concern about the future/prospect), so in actual term should be low future PE. Looking past PE can be misleading sometimes, becareful about it.

2. Market price < NTA (Doesn't 100% correct especially when company making losses time, it can wipe out the NTA)

3. Market price < the real worth of the company.

For 2&3, NTA doesn't mean is a final truth value of the company, it is just a book value. If company didn't revalue its assets, NTA won't increase either. FYI, NTA increases in two way, either through profit or asset appreciation revaluation.

For Finance stock, market generally uses Price to Book ratio (P/BV) to determine its fair value.

If you get Monday's StarBiz, you can get the NTA value for every counter. That is the book value. If you take the Price and divide by the NTA, you will get the P/BV ratio smile.gif

My opinion is low P/E is better than high P/E provided the comparison must be apple to apple. Mean compare 2 counters in the same field and with the similar performance on ROE, Profit margin, D/E & EPS growth.
Use low price to buy the similar good product in the case.

Some companies without oversea exposure gets low PE...
Just look at GENTING... lots of cash, generous profit and dividend but price wise not really at 20x.

Most important is to study, study and study. Read as much as you can from KLSE website, the internet tutorials, books from libraries and also get a trial account from CIMB for trying your hand on trading in the stock market. Don't ever put your hard earned money on something you don't fully understand.

you can't just 'play' the stock exchange - otherwise you'll be 'played' out very fast

need to read and do your own research a lot, and watch the macro- and microeconomic pictures

and for me, the most important thing is...whether you are a lucky person biggrin.gif cuz that will help most of the time!!!
