with that budget you can have your own design firm. look at my lousy spec pulak..
i can do 3d architectural (design) with my rig what.. no lagging, no problem, money efficiency. haha

woot...mine comp even lousier, doing a 2D 1920X1080 image filter on Photo shop cs2 load slow

ques1, which proc should i take? Opteron or athlon64 X2?
ques2, a proc with bigger cache reduce time during rendering?
ques3, should i go for gc with SLI setup or quadro? (part-time gamer)

please, don't buy the RM 9k - 14k.

you spend RM 9k, it doesn't last 5x longer than RM 3k rig.
you spend RM 9k, it doesn't last 3x longer than RM 3k rig.

better you go for RM 3k rig or whatever, then upgrade when you find it lacking. it's better that way.

-if not mistaken, opteron got 2 version dual & quad core (correct me if i'm wrong). if you mean dual core i think baik tak payah kot.. athlon64 x2 will be better. but if quad core it much better.
-i'm not sure about cache size, but processor will effect a lot in rendering for sure.
-what series of gc you mean to go for SLI? quadro also got many series..maybe you can be more specific. but if you got big budget for gc, go for quadro, you can do gaming with quadro also.

I'm comparing between
single core Opteron vs Athlon64 X2 5200+; or
dual core Opteron (if I have the budget) vs Athlon64 X2 5200+.

I know if I'm going for Quadro SLI setup, it could cost a hole in my wallet. So, my budget just allow me either Geforce SLI/ATI crossfire vs Quadro.
