Hi guys,
Just wana find out.
If i want to get a PC which is 3D modeling, 3D animation, Motion Graphic (most of the time using Maya and Adobe After Effects)
RAM and Graphic Card which take the important role??
If i do not have a very good but normal graphic card and with 2Gb RAM.
Will the processing slow down because don have good Graphic Card?
Some of my fren said RAM is more important than Graphic Card for this kind of job.
Coz Graphic Card is more for gaming purpose, but for doing those 3D thing RAM is more important.

If i would like to get AcerPower1000 is it possible to create Motion Graphic and render in short time?

Whether u need more RAM depends on the size of ur model. Having more RAM allows u to create bigger models. I think ur RAM should be enough for most ppl. Are you doing this for professional purposes? I'd be wary of the integrated gfx.It isn't designed for heavy 3-D graphics work.

take Intel setup which is faster speed in work.
Bigger cache size.

and ram is important in rendering.
for modelling, gpu is important.

detail 3D model will need nvidia quadro or ati fireGL as they will help to calculate more polygons than normal proc can do..

opting for quad-core is the best to reduce your rendering time, and dual-core is also good enough..

bigger ram capacity will help when doing large graphic designs..

integrated one is crap..better get GC....quadro is recommended for doing modelling....this quadro is used by film producer to make CGI film like toystory...evanalmighty.......i don't know whether they SLI or not...

You will need a proper graphic card for Maya, like a mid range Quadro.

the setup above will be unbearable even when u load Maya.

thx for the expert comments
so in conclusion, good GC will help in calculating detailed polygon while RAM is helping it run smooth and rendering

I recommend that you build a custom one with 4GB RAM and 2X 8800GTX Ultra Edition, I am sure you will enjoy it haha. But honestly speaking, I think 2GB RAM and 8800GTS will be enough if your using in XP.

I heard tat 4Gb ram only supported if only using XP64bit
else it will detected as 3Gb ram even though 4Gb Ram were installed.

Quadro is the best choice???

your spec more in gaming rather than modelling...maybe u mean 14k 3dmark score but if u mean RM14k, RM 3 k spec should do well....just remember to buy to correct hardware....u can buy quadro for cheap price at garage sale....

solely for workstation i would suggest :-

1. cpu: Xeon Quad cores
2. gfx: either quadro/ firegl family
3. larger RAM capacity

4. hdd: raptor/ scsi(optional)

that is the most important smile.gif

Quadro isnt really for rendering purpose only.

The main reason for Quadro / FireGL is for high poly count, huge texture cache, real time view in viewport. Also, Quadro do SLI.

For consumer levels, a gaming grade GC worth the run. Recommended is to get hold on a 512MB of VRAM GC for huge textures support. For latest series, nVidia 8600GT minimum while ATI 38x0 series minimum if you are a up-to-date geek tongue.gif

I run on 2x Quadro and tbh, performance is on real time viewing and high polygon support. High as in millions of faces. If you are into detail modelling and hardcore user of Mudbox, then Quadro is worth to look at. Mid range now goes around RM1k++ unless you wanted to do modelling ONLY, then the entry level ones is for you.

You dont need RM14k setup for a DCC workstation. I setup mine at 9K. Depends on what part you choose.. and what application you wanted to run and do you want to do pipeline within any DCC application.

Ok i learned that you mainly use Maya and AE so since i am the same as you.. here is my advice. Go for a 2x 10k RPM HDD (1 for boot, 1 for scratch disk + VM), a huge 7200RPM storage HDD and max your memory your mainboard can handle (usually around 4GB. If you have the cash, workstation class mainboard for up to 32GB) ah.. i miss this, 1 external 7200RPM HDD for backup, recommended 500GB.

Monitor, go for dual screen. You wont feel regret. I run on 2x 24" and it give ample space to lay out your windows and layout config in maya tongue.gif ( even best if you are a shader geek, you get to have hypershade on the 2nd monitor for experiments wink.gif )

Get a good speed dual core processor and get Nucleo Pro for AE to get full use of the dual core composition efficiency.

Anyway, this is my 2cent so.. its up to you to go after what is best for you. All the best!

great advices so far BUT i think one thing that we should all consider is whether TS is just studying or actually working and doing high level 3D modelling and such.

see, for students - i don't think those RM 9k- RM 14k setup are feasible.
