Whats up with the Ballistic Tracer sticks? Should I be considering these. Both received decent reviews when OC'ing. I don't mind the LED lights on the tracer, but I'm not all that concerned with 'bling' for now.

For me, the ballistic 8500 ady can do 1066 ady..

As high as the board will let me go. It's only rated for 800 though - so I'll start with a 800 OC'ed to 1066 on a PC-6400 DIMM.

I tried my Corsair ValuSelect DDR 667 - wouldn't OC at all without hanging. Obviously not meant for that, but even slightly upping the speed would cause the system to crash.

remember set 2T command rate for DDR2 systems

u ask ktek,my kingston 533mhz value ram oc to 1260mhz without any ram cooler or heat spreader
try to use as low vdimm as possible and as ktek said,2T is a must for ur system.loosen timing to CL5 first then increase the frequency and see how high can CL5 go

Even though I've requested 800MHz, It's actually clocked at 775MHz right now, which is in-line with my FSB frequency of 387.5Mhz (x 8 = 3.1GHz OC).

The next step is 827MHz, where it won't boot.
So I'll stress test @ 775MHz for now, but it's better than 667MHz.
I haven't adjust vdimm yet which will be the next step.

increase teh vdimm step by step.
for value ram,the limit is 2.4vdimm while if running good PCB adn good chip,it can go 2.65vdimm.both in passive mode i mean.
if u have active cooling,maybe u can stress up to 2.7vdimm.

for my personal record the highest vdimm i ever used is 2.6vdimm only.running CL4 1200MHz

You try pump a stick of value ram with elpida to 2.65 and see, i doubt it will last long...

His personal record was set on performance rams and also Asus MIIF.

Btw, do check if your ram mobo vdimms are accurate before going beyond 2.2v. If your mobo is overvolting and you push to 2.6~2.7 then aloha...Bye Bye...

well,seriously,i tell u guys,those mobo with ROG one har,perform sucker than those normal version.
running CL4 2.6vdimm on P5K-Premium with 10th Anny while in Maximus Formula it wont boot,as well as Maximus II Formula too.

I tried running the next step up - which is 827MHz.

Wouldn't POST at stock voltage, raised from 1.8 to 2.0 and after 1hr of stress testing, computer crashed.

Tried again, lasted about 2 hours and crashed again.

I didn't want to up the vdimm on the value RAM, so I settled back down to 77MHz for now. Will order some OCZ Reaper PC-6400 2x2GB this week and try again.
