Hi guys, new N81 8GB user here ... got it a week back @ rm1300

great phone with many good features and its defiantely better then
my last fon, N73ME.

I only have issues with:
- back casing creaking noise shakehead.gif
- 20mb fon mem, makes receiving files via BT rather tiresome. When use
"memcard" the fon cant go into mass storage/data transfer mode sweat.gif
- 2MP camera

All in all its still a very nice everyday fon to have. icon_rolleyes.gif

Oh yeah, I also use the Holux M-1000 GPS-r and lovin' it too.

Question:
i've been using video converters to make videos to my fon, but they seem to play back
kinda choppy. What's the best video bitrate to use? Im currently at 256kpbs.

Player: DivX Mobile, Smartmovie and all vids are 320x240

i dunno wat csl is but AP is similar to ori set only it pays no import tax or something, hence the cheaper price. There's some warranty issues also. U still get the complete original sales package.

like mine is AP set from SingTel (singapore telco i think).

I want to know what gps devices commonly used with s60 or in this case n81?

What models? and also prices?
*
Im not really sure wht common models most ppl use, im using a Holux M-1000 unit (used with Nokia Maps) which i got from a LYN gps-r seller for RM250 abt 4-5 months back. Last i checked, prices range were around 180 - 500 for gps-r's depending on brand and type. Only diff i can see is the lock on time, ability to stay locked on and accuracy. hmm.gif

I think that any external gps-r that has bluetooth spp profile can be used with the S60's. I used the same unit trouble free with my old phone, N73ME (s60 3rd).

which is better holux m-1000 or Adapt Marathon 55?
*
I havent used the adapt yet, but technically speaking the major diff to me are:

H-1000
- MTK MT3318 GPS Chip, taiwan chip, so far no compalins
- Uses Nokia BL-5C battery.
- No wall charger, uses USB cable (like used on digital cameras) or Car adapter with USB (provided) to charge.
- Boxy design, looks old school.
- 17hrs of use.

Marathon 55
- Sirf star III GPS chip, a well known chip used in many phones, including nokia.
- AA sized Li-MH 2400mh batteries.
- Wall charger included as well as car charger.
- Sleeker design
- 55hrs of use.

In my opinion, if plan to heavily use the GPS daily, go for the Adapt cos they have longer endurance otherwise the Holux is adequate.

Hope this helps icon_rolleyes.gif

What about the channels?... if i'm not mistaken the chnnels on thee Marathon 55 are lower... what are channels exactly?

32 on h1000 and 20 on the Adapt
*
The chanels, from wht i understand, is the number of satellites it can search then track. 1 chanel per sat. Though in reality, the map software only need a minimum of 3 to get a lock. Nokia maps uses 5 when available but can work with only 2 at the cost of accuracy.

However, more channels are preferable but not nessesary. I've heard though (not confirmed) that some ppl say more channels means faster lock. hmm.gif

H or M 1000? lols

There is another M1000b if i am not mistaken which is a better version, i feel like buying one to use with GarminMobileXT the ahem version cause the free version can only pair up with the Garmin 10X , and that GPS cost RM380 and review has proven that Garmin 10X is better, however i don have enough budget for that, I am still looking for second hand one though.

Nokia Maps Failed to deliver what I need as the map is not detail enough for me >.<
*
oops, my bad ... its M-1000 and yes the M-1000B is an updated version. blush.gif

chicaman, ur right btw, the garmin mobileXT is way more detailed. But im also suffering from lack of budget hehe. Nokia maps to me is a basic map software, not very detailed but works fine as a general "where-am-i-now?" kinda tool.

guys wanna ask, I have sum issues about the phone mem

is it just me or does the phone mem never gets above 5mb free? Mine averages around 3mb or so, when i browse web for long periods get out of mem error. blink.gif

the spec says 24mb phone mem, how come only at best 5 mb r available for use? All other apps r installed on mass mem.

fyi, i use fon mem for msgs, as i tend to often use my fon as a thumbdrive. But even after clearing all, still never go above 5mb.

Any help here guys? Thx

*im using n81 8gb version
