We do sometimes have used iMac for sales.

In fact we just sold an iMac 13.3" Core 2 Duo 2.0 (white) last month.

We can also help you to upgrade the RAM. The is no charge if you buy the RAM from us. It is a DDR2 RAM for notebook. It cannot be use for PC.

Right now we don't have stocks for iMac. Please check our website regularly for new stock.

Or call me at 102-2969808 for info.

Just to clarify, the Macbook and iMac uses SO-DIMMs so you cannot plug them into DIMM slots on a desktop machine.

However there is no difference between RAM used on Apple's consumer machines with the Kingston/Corsair/Munchkin you get at LYP.

Well for the RAM, if you use the Santa Rossa processor, the the VALUE RAM will do, I bought 2X 2GB RAM Stick KINGSTON VALUE RAM just for RM320/-, it just accept PC RAM.
if you use the old Processor, INTEL CORE DUO (not the CORE 2 DUO ya), IBM G4 and G5, u better buy the RAM from APPLE. This is observation from my own experience/MAC :

a) POWERBOOK G4 ---> VALUE RAM = NOT OK
b) MACMINI G4 ---> VALUE RAM = NOT OK
c) iMac G5 ---> VALUE RAM = NOT OK
d) iMac Core Duo ---> VALUE RAM = NOT 100%, depends on luck
e) iMac Core 2 Duo (Santa Rossa) ---> VALUE RAM = OK
f) MACBOOK PRO (Santa Rossa) ----> VALUE RAM = OK

I haven't seen any of those problems before to be honest. I consult for a department having > 100 Macs and have had no problems using Kingston/Apacer/Mushkin/Micron etc RAM. Just buy generic branded RAM not the noname ones, Value RAM or otherwise, and it'll be ok. I personally use KVR on my personal Macs too.

There are loads of shops selling Macs nowadays and if u want to save money then look out for the new model launch where they will dispose the older models at a discount. It all depends on what u wanna do with yr Mac and if u really need the speed.

For the rams, I bought Kingstons for RM300 for 2G and it works fine.

i don't think it is that worth it to go singapore just to buy a macbook... unless you are there for a trip coincidentally...the savings are not like 30% and above...just a few hundred riggit...

as for upgrading memory especially the non-apple compliant or non-apple certified memory... sure there will be no issues until it comes the time you either get kernel panics or a dead logic board and send it back to the service centres... there is a chance that they'll start blaming your memory and give you a hard time...

Sure, MacBooks have 2GHz as the base model, but they ultimately lose out to video performance. Compare 3DMark scores: ballpark of 900 for MacBook and over 2000 for the specs above. If that isn't decent, I don't know what is.

you go apple store to ask that? doh.gif sweat.gif Btw, it is illegal to do so.

you need hack version of mac osx or the current 1, EFI emulation. Make sure your mobo chipset is intel for EFI emulation wink.gif

i think you don't understand what is EFI emulation. laugh.gif It is not emulation la.

Go read this site ---> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Extensible_Firmware_Interface

Apple machine don't use BIOS, but uses EFI. And this EFI emulation does is to emulate EFI. Then install mac osx without hacked kernel. It is consider almost 'genuine'. That's the latest hack method for hackintosh. Or you can use the older method. It is not emulation also. You need to dl hacked kernel of mac osx. It is running NATIVE.

Btw, bad cyborg uses EFI emulation, just look at his sig. PM him la. cool.gif For EFI emulation, your machine need to be intel processor and mobo chipset must be intel as well.

even though it is only RM70... imagine the time being spent and other factors... then comes the trouble of passing through the customs (not sure bout this) ...as i say, if you are co-incidentally going down to meet some friends, tour or for a stay then it is okay...

worst come to worst is it dies somehow in the journey back to KL or wherever you live... and you'll have to bring it back to the Singapore retail to get a one to one exchange... sorry, but i am just stating all the disadvantages : P

i think the Apple Service Centres in malaysia won't do a one to one exchange and they'll need you to provide additional proofs of purchase as it is not purchased in Malaysia...

Just checked the prices for the Macbook Pro --

They are selling it in Apple.com.sg for SG$3106.00 (educational pricing) which is about USD $2159

In Machines (Megamall and KLCC) they are selling it for RM 7349 (with 2 % off) which is about USD $2241

so its reasonably cheaper in SG. They still both rip you off compared to the States though..the MBPro is only going for USD $1800 so they are profiting by over 400 USD. With that amount of extra cash, you could buy an iPhone..sigh.

Hmm, I have family over there so I might get them to purchase it...but how about the delivery? Isn't customs going to tax the hell out of your computer? And I don't really think I could trust such an expensive purchase (>1800 USD) through the mail..what happens if it gets lost??

pc parts aren't taxable but its not recommended to get it straight from there to here via postage

it would be good if someone is willing to hand carry it for u back. if its via postage, delivery will kill you and somemore with its fragile and just in case some delivery guy drop it during the delivery time who is there to blame.

parcels losing rate is not that much d compared to last time...smile.gif

you know what, I forgot to add the TAX to the us pricing -- estimated tax (89.95) brings it up to 1,888.95 so they are really profiting here by 352.05 USD

Perhaps it is better to buy it in singapore -- but the US is still the best. Heard the Macbook Air is going to sell at equivalent pricing..strange, huh? Maybe apple is realizing they shouldn't jack up the prices so much for developing countries..lol.
