Been to Lowyat and back yesterday...don't know if they really don't have it or they are keeping mum on the 3870X2. Seems like NDA ISN'T 23rd Jan after all...

i noticed in some 3870x2 reviews the gpuz shows that the plex pcie bridge chip is on pcie 1.1 not pcie 2.0

anybody can confirm this?
*
I noticed that as well. Particularly Tomshardware (which I trust) but I'm not sure if the link I posted is still there. Can't confirm yet though. But if the professionals said so, I wouldn't disagree.

A question here.
Wouldn't 3870X2 a better solution than 3870 crossfire?

Not all games support CF but all the games should support 3870X2 even without any patch.

Correct me if I'm wrong.
*
According to several reviews, 3870X2 has the same problem with CF. Any games that has problem with CF will have problem with 3870X2.

Most of the reviews gave positive outlook for the card but I don't think the price will justify the purchase if you're a HD3870 owner and has a CF board. Even more so if you're a 8800GT owner with SLI board.

Going to have to wait for very long for that version to appear. It's not easy to design heatsinks for such a card. I wonder if Thermalright will design any specifically for it. Or just slap 2 HR03GT on it?

hmm so a lot of talk.. anybody bought it yet??

me decided for first time not going to be guine pig..
was guinea for the 320gts, 2900xt, 3870, 8800gt, 8800gts 512

so this time wanna see some ppl else posting performance no.
more importantly overclocking and temps..

bit worried about the temps ..
a lot of the reviews are done in middle of the coldest month in winter..

so malaysia means plus another 20C min
*
You do realize that the reviewers didn't put their PC out in the open, in the blistering cold, right? They use heaters at home, to raise the temperature around 25-27°C. Some Malaysians like to set their aircon to the lowest possible (around 16°C) of which, will cause the room temperature to be around 20-23°C.

hmm i think u never lived overseas..
i did for 4 years.

a lot of ppl dont use heaters that much unless ure rich to pay ure gas bills.

most of the time we control the temps only for the bedroom to be warm during nights.
*
Yeah, I never lived overseas. But I did go there during winter. But would you think people at Tomshardware, Anandtech, and guru3D would overlook the ambient temperature? And I don't think they don't have problems with heating. Unless you go to forums whereby individuals post their rresults, that's another matter.

i am not going to waste my time talking about this.. but if u want a few reviewers hp no.
i can give them to u.... kindda talk to some of them often.
happy?
guru3d.. yeah i know a few of them.. u wanna ask them personally??.

trust me when i say most ppl dont run heaters in their computer room. and all this benchmark are bench rigs and are in the open. or go get a HD3870x2.. do ure own temps monitoring and compare that to those of anand..
yeah he used a magic wand..
if u can even achieve some of the older overclocks on stock gpu that vrzone has done.. i would be suprise.
so anybody bought the hd3870x2 yet??
*
Haha~! Ok ok. You make your point. I play GW with lots of people from 4 season countries and most of them use heaters in their house, so they don't really think that winter would affect their cooling. Anyway, let's put this thing aside.

That HD3870X2 is available in Lowyat. I can confirm that. Saw it and the price just blew me away. But it's really close to recommended retail price. Then again, one should only consider this after the release of better stock heatsinks or 3rd party ones from reputable manufacturers.

Well, bargaining power, pursuasion and a little bit knowledge on bulk price will help the consumers get the card at relatively lower price that is closer to recommended retail price.

Cooling is meant to be efficient. The stock cooling solution is terrible. Very noisy and very hot.

With Catalyst 8.3 due to be arriving today (supposedly)...here is an update on HD3870X2 to whet our appetite...

Specs are more or less the same with the exception of the memory. Here's a source to look at: http://www.vr-zone.com/articles/PowerColor...GDDR4/5633.html

this powercolour design seems better then stock design, altough it's fater but shorter...........

wander how good is the price
*
Should be roughly the same since the original HD3870X2 GDDR3 will be cheaper after the introduction of the 9800GX2 and 9800GTX. Also, note that the Powercolor one has 3 DVI and 1 HDMI.

Added on March 5, 2008, 10:06 amWhat baffles me is that, the card can easily be fitted with 3 80mm fans...so, why the single 92mm fan? Cost again...sigh.

3*80mm, uncessary noise perhaps....... or they need to pay patent fee to artic cooling.........

btw clayclws, the earlier picture u show is from power colour too rite? why only 2 dvi port, 2 different version ?
*
I mistakenly named them HIS, when they are actually Powercolor's as well. But I got them from a Serbian website. Took sometime to translate with Google Translate. Seems like there are different versions. Not sure which will be out because those photographs are taken at CeBit...Release dates may be in March, but most likely 2nd Quarter before the RV770.

The fans are too noisy and the heatsinks have low thermal dissipation efficiency. GDDR4 is better for OC-ing.
