why the hell u want to skim ur brake pad in the 1st place? juz buy another new set lor then bed in properly
i think what he meant is skim the disc rotor.. but it is not nescessary as well as long as ur disc rotor is still flat smile.gif
do u have braking difficulties like shaky when hard brake?
last time i skim 1 side rm30

yes i wan to change my brake pad. and he told me that my brake disc need to be skimed. i also feel 2 yr and 30000km sooo less ler.

is the disc surface suppose to be TOTALLY flat? i can feel very fine circular lines on the surface when i touch it with my finger.

i mean skim the disc, not the pads =)

normal brake no problem.. once i brake at high speed got feel a bit vibration, not till shaking lo

got vibration = not flat anymore
yes, it is supposed to be very FLAT or ur brake efficiency decrease lor.. for example:
u r travelling at 60km/h and hard brake.. ur car stop faster in flat road or bumpy road?

Was asking that just to know how you got that offer to skim it in the first place. smile.gif

Anyways, fine circular lines, normal. If it's a deep scratch, not normal. If you brakes vibrate the skim, like what others suggested. The brake pads are running through some dips/bumps on the disk that causes that.

Mostly due to wear and tear only... Your disc will be not flat but not noticeable... No point skimming it if you didn't find any problem with brake eg: vibration or noise...

Skim max twice. But some brake pads will eat up your discs, making them thinner and thinner.

I heard Bendix are one of them. tongue.gif

sudden temperature changes... causing it to expand and shrink at abnormal rate... molecul inside couldnt arrange themselves properly.... thus, u get warped disc... icon_rolleyes.gif

alot caused lah.. most prominent cause is after a long journey drive and the disc rotor is hot, u rinse or wash the whole car and kena the disc rotor

got after u skim the disc will be thinner.. u shd understand wat it skimming by now.. they ll remove the layer of disc to make the disc even again. thin disc ll break if under heavy braking.. so u must always keep noted of that. Skimming must not be done often. If u got extra $$ get new disc better..

In fact, most Conti cars recommend change of rotor when changing brake pads.

But the norm here is, changing rotor is the last resort. If nothing, don't bother. Skim when necessary.

I hear an 'unskimmed' brake disc will wear out your brake pads faster, and can't provide smooth braking. Depending on the condition la. But to be honest...2 years is very short isn't it? Your brake disc now is definitely not perfect...but its not all that bad lah. Not necessary to skim it so early.
