There is no difference taking pictures with compact cameras and DSLR. The difference is the exposure, white balance and so on that can be set and tweak within the camera.

Sorry that i am not into Sony cameras so lets hope someone can help you on the recommendation.

Also, do cut down the usage of Capital letters, in internet, the way you type will give the impression of shouting.

If budget allow, I would seriously get a EOS 5D (used one also can) along with a EF135 f2 USM L (used one also one). I am sure you will be amazed on the potrait taking result on how sharp the subject + how blur the background.

Actually with 5D, 2 lenses enought makan liao -> EF24-105 L + EF135 f2 L. It should cover everything. thumbup.gif

The TS mentioned about RM1k budget, so let's not suggest anything fancy to him.
I'd suggest Canon Power Shot series. With enough manual control on the aperture and shutter speed, you can shoot fine portraits.

Get the Canon A720IS, its a not-so-bad kind of camera, i think it works well on portraits too, if not, look for the the fd50 by fuji smile.gif natural skin tone it produces.

lol my sony dsc-n2 have sucky LCD screen.. and very bad aperture.

for all rounder, i still prefer my canon powershot a570is. availability of all SLR functions and the twist and turn 360 degrees LCD sure helps me get the right lighting angle. and camwhoring myself aint a problem coz with a little flip and turn, u can preview your own self thru the lcd.

anyways, megapixel wise, it's a 10mp sony vs 7.2mp canon. that is if picture size is not a biggie for u.

oh, more things to add. sony do have better flash than canon.

shooting in wide angle.. sony sucks!

THERE IS DIFFERENCE, especially in terms of DOF and viewing angle.

don't generalize. it depends on the sensor size and equipped lens.

I wouldnt be getting my sony Alpha Dslr if there is any camera below 1k but still appear to b like slr camera. hahaha rclxub.gif mayb from the outlook.. it "appear" to b like slr... but the fact is ... d photo taken r not like SLr. sweat.gif

I think is kinda hard to get even a sony digicam below 1k. unless u dont mind the old model. my suggestion r.. If u really like slr camera quality, then go for it..just make sure u keep 2 eyes on it all the time.. dont get it stolen anymore... its aint cheap brows.gif

I do agree with kelvinyam.. the powershot series (with TV AV, m Setting) r good start. and if you fully explore ur camera... d result r compatible to dslr. There will be limitation.. But limitation leads to creativitiness. Composition! u can check kelvinyam website. he got some really great photos taken by non-dslr. Am I correct? notworthy.gif

A650 is a good one... bt i m sure is over ur budget. Look for screen that can be twist n turn.. u'll find it really useful n u can get to shoot photos at interesting angles/

Oh... I did not see the budget constrait... Some more recently I had seen a numer of kids with basically no limit on spending... sweat.gif

I suggest 5D + 135 f2 L simply because I saw he want to shoot potrait. And my recommendation should be great tool thumbup.gif
