the fan attached on colourful 8800GT is Zalman VF-1050 , and yes, it is noise but perform quite well. But more worse is, u can't adjust the fan speed as it is a 2 pin fan. sweat.gif

btw, I also facing the same problem like yours in RivaTurner. So, I forced to set two hotkeys to adjust my fan speed...
*
Performed well?... hmmmz.. it looks normal temp to me... now basically idle at 60'c (60% fan speed).

Tried 100% fanspeed, and the temp. at idle its 57'c... looks normal temp. that i see on those oem fan... sweat.gif

Mine is 700/1700/1900 and with VF700AlCu

I heard they underclocked later batches due to the qimondas/killmondas not stable at 1900.  And that they are naow using samsung memory.
*
I wonder thats true... and not to mentioned even those Gigabyte with samsung memory also clocked at 1840 instead of 1900.

Yes, Winfast and Leadtek are basically the same. The Galaxy one is just going wild at RM729. Very nice price indeed. Is it the one with the 2 slot cooler?
*
DArn.. shld gotten Galaxy one, i knew its rm729 but i tot it was the single-slot cooler which it sux... so didnt bother getting it... doh.gif

And abt the Winfast/Leadtek ones, i checked its single-slot one... which it sux... noisy yet not so good in cooling unlike the 2nd-revision of oem one.. which its 2-slot cooler which they later implemented sweat.gif

Btw, izzit juz me or 8800GT oem (even 3rd-party) coolers its noiser than 8800GTS (g90) oem coolers?... or am i imagining?.. tongue.gif

recently realise tht if wanna go for nvidia card, dont go for pre-OC card, nvidia keep on crashing on my pre-OC'ed Zotac 8800GT AMP edition... i can pass all test, 3dmark and everything even 5 hours gaming non-stop, but it still crashes randomly... very random...
*
Imo, it seems that at 2000Mhz the ram chips cant handle, so if getting a pre-o/c ones.. basically juz dont get Zotac AMP! Edition, since its the (imo) only card that has 2000Mhz pre-clocked, unlike other pre-clocked at 1840Mhz or 1900Mhz, which has no probs at all.

Btw, have u tried rma'ed?... since its not working properly at the clock-speeds that supposed to be... so its considered manufacture defects rite?... no?... hmm.gif

i have seen forsa brand selling at rm 6xx
*
Imo, thats one thing bad abt getting cheaper or lesser known brands... the prices drops dam freaking fast!!!... for example Colorful 8800GT from rm899, juz abt 3mths plus oredi dropped price to less than rm600 rclxub.gif sweat.gif

Wherelse Asus, Gigabyte, Leadtek and etc. minimal price drop like rm10-20bucks for last 3mths or so.

And another thing i heard not much mentioned other than price its the warranty. Its that afaik Asus and Gigabyte has 3-years warranty, which came with the pricetag, that u have to consider it too.

Cheers rclxub.gif

QUOTE(baok @ Apr 26 2008, 12:31 AM)
Hello, firstly, I bought a card ASUS 8800GT 256mb during Penang PCFair for my fren and installed it for him.. the next day (Monday) he complained that he couldn't play any games for more than two hours, as the game will eventually crashed... By mean of crashed, it actually produce errors, or bluescreen, or just froze out..

I've tested the card myself at both mine and his computer and I conclude that the card indeed faulty.. So I went back to SwissPac yesterday for RMA.. Today, I received a new card and set-up to my fren pc.. I've tested again myself and the very same symptom still occur... Previously, my fren uses 7900GT 256mb at no problem at all.. I even try to use two different driver (from cd, and the latest one from Nvidia).. but the problem still persist..

I try to change his RAM/PSU with mine but nothing changes.. So, I get fed-up and end-up formatting his PC.. re-installing everything and tested the games again... yet, the same things happen.. My fren get soo frustrated and I felt very-very bad for him..

I've tried these games for several hours today and all of them crashed before 2-hrs mark..

1. Assassin Creed - I get error from MS..
2. Advanced Warfighter - BlueScreen or froze out..
3. World in Conflict.. game will hang just over 1 hour-mark..

Could it be that ASUS 8800GT 256mb version has bug/problems?? below is my frens' spec..

E2140 with TTBT..
P35-DS3
2GB Micron DDR2-800
250GB SATA2-WD
CoolerMaster Extreme Power 550watt
LG DVD-RW..
ASUS EN8800GT 256MB..
Philips 17" CRT Monitor (1280x1024)
So, here's what I did from Monday --> Today..

1. Try the card at his pc >> crashed
2. Change the driver >> crashed
3. Try the card at my own pc >> crashed..
4. RMA the card.. try the new card at my fren pc >> crashed
5. Change the driver >> crashed
6. Change the RAM, PSU >> crashed
7. Fix PCiE clock at Bios into 100MHz >> Crashed
8. using ASUS software to downclocked the card to its lowest possible >> crashed..
9. Format my fren PC >> re-install everything.. >> crashed..
10 write here..
I'm soo.. at lost now.. I'm thinking of bringing my fren's PC to SwissPac tomorrow for their technician to check.. Anyone with 8800GT 256mb facing similar problem? or anyone with 8800GT 256mb can testify that  their card running just fine...
*
Hmmmz... im juz wondering what temp. u gotten for yer card there idle and load temps (by using ATi Tool to stress test, and did u try it on 3Dmark too?.. see whether it runs or not).

Ermmz.. did u remember to plug pcie power cable to yer card?...

What PSU have u tried it on?.. other than yer CM Extreme Power 550w.

Tried latest beta drivers from nvidia?.. 174.74.

Thats all i can think abt it now... tongue.gif

Cheers smile.gif

Im asking to run it coz, see whether at least yer 3dcard stable enough to run a 3D benchmark.. see whether it can be run, at the same time can see whether got artifacts or not lor..

You can check temps. using Rivatuner too.

ok.. updates for you.. last night, I successfully run 3DMark06 and get 119xx scores (at default).. hwmonitor doesn't give any temperatures for 8800GT, that's strange I guess..

Note that my fren works today, so I cannot send his pc to SwissPac..

So, I uninstalled Advanced Warfighter ( my fren and I have finished their campaign..) just now I played World in Conflict for over 3 hours without crash (at Medium setting).. so I guess I might have found something here.. but wait!!  As soon as I started Assassin Creed, the game crashed and I have to restart the computer.. so I play Assassin creed for just over an hour before it crashed again.. totally frustrated by this.. Unfortunately I've lost my Crysis, CoH and CoD4 cd..  sad.gif I'd like to test with others game.. will keep updated.. today nak kemas rumah.. perhaps tomorrow will go back to SwissPac. I will send the card back to ASUS if I have too.. cool2.gif

Could it be the 256mb is not enough for 8800GT to handle it?? vga memory overload perhaps?
*
Yea as vincentlaw stated, i heard Asus 8800GT cards its temps. (even fanspeed(?)) can't be detected by other proggies other than its own proggie which its the Asus SmartDoctor.

Abt yer Assassin Creed i guess the error msg that u crashed its sumtin do with M$Live! which its a common thing, normally juz ignored the error msg (don't close the error msg window), and go to yer taskbar, select yer game, and "click" on it to restore yer game.

Cheers wink.gif
