the fan attached on colourful 8800GT is Zalman VF-1050 , and yes, it is noise but perform quite well. But more worse is, u can't adjust the fan speed as it is a 2 pin fan.

btw, I also facing the same problem like yours in RivaTurner. So, I forced to set two hotkeys to adjust my fan speed...

I heard they underclocked later batches due to the qimondas/killmondas not stable at 1900.  And that they are naow using samsung memory.

recently realise tht if wanna go for nvidia card, dont go for pre-OC card, nvidia keep on crashing on my pre-OC'ed Zotac 8800GT AMP edition... i can pass all test, 3dmark and everything even 5 hours gaming non-stop, but it still crashes randomly... very random...

Hello, firstly, I bought a card ASUS 8800GT 256mb during Penang PCFair for my fren and installed it for him.. the next day (Monday) he complained that he couldn't play any games for more than two hours, as the game will eventually crashed... By mean of crashed, it actually produce errors, or bluescreen, or just froze out.. 

I've tested the card myself at both mine and his computer and I conclude that the card indeed faulty.. So I went back to SwissPac yesterday for RMA.. Today, I received a new card and set-up to my fren pc.. I've tested again myself and the very same symptom still occur... Previously, my fren uses 7900GT 256mb at no problem at all.. I even try to use two different driver (from cd, and the latest one from Nvidia).. but the problem still persist..

I try to change his RAM/PSU with mine but nothing changes.. So, I get fed-up and end-up formatting his PC.. re-installing everything and tested the games again... yet, the same things happen.. My fren get soo frustrated and I felt very-very bad for him..

I've tried these games for several hours today and all of them crashed before 2-hrs mark..

1. Assassin Creed - I get error from MS..
2. Advanced Warfighter - BlueScreen or froze out..
3. World in Conflict.. game will hang just over 1 hour-mark..

Could it be that ASUS 8800GT 256mb version has bug/problems?? below is my frens' spec..

1. Try the card at his pc >> crashed
2. Change the driver >> crashed
3. Try the card at my own pc >> crashed..
4. RMA the card.. try the new card at my fren pc >> crashed
5. Change the driver >> crashed
6. Change the RAM, PSU >> crashed
7. Fix PCiE clock at Bios into 100MHz >> Crashed
8. using ASUS software to downclocked the card to its lowest possible >> crashed..
9. Format my fren PC >> re-install everything.. >> crashed..
10 write here..
I'm soo.. at lost now.. I'm thinking of bringing my fren's PC to SwissPac tomorrow for their technician to check.. Anyone with 8800GT 256mb facing similar problem? or anyone with 8800GT 256mb can testify that  their card running just fine...

1. I haven't do any 3DMark as the game itself is more important..

ok.. updates for you.. last night, I successfully run 3DMark06 and get 119xx scores (at default).. hwmonitor doesn't give any temperatures for 8800GT, that's strange I guess..

Note that my fren works today, so I cannot send his pc to SwissPac..

So, I uninstalled Advanced Warfighter ( my fren and I have finished their campaign..) just now I played World in Conflict for over 3 hours without crash (at Medium setting).. so I guess I might have found something here.. but wait!!  As soon as I started Assassin Creed, the game crashed and I have to restart the computer.. so I play Assassin creed for just over an hour before it crashed again.. totally frustrated by this.. Unfortunately I've lost my Crysis, CoH and CoD4 cd..  I'd like to test with others game.. will keep updated.. today nak kemas rumah.. perhaps tomorrow will go back to SwissPac. I will send the card back to ASUS if I have too..

Could it be the 256mb is not enough for 8800GT to handle it?? vga memory overload perhaps?
