Hi guys. I have a few questions here.
1. If I topup rm10k in it and I use the card in US, I have the option to choose to pay in USD or MYR right? (In which payment in USD would be the best?) 2. It's stated that there's some cross border fee + currency conversion fee. But I heard from some people that right now there's no fee for overseas transaction for a period of time? Any idea when it will be until? 3. Is using bigpay for retail payment a lot beneficial compared to using normal debit card in US? 4. Is there any maximum withdrawal amount in USD, considering overseas cash withdrawal is costly, one would definitely withdraw a lump sum in every withdraw. |

QUOTE(Ramjade @ May 15 2018, 10:31 PM) 1. If I am not mistaken USD. But let's wait for others to confirm. I will be in US for about 5 months for my exchange program. Is it adviced to open a bank account during the 5 months or to continue cash withdrawal from ATM using Malaysian debit card?2. See FAQ Once their customer base is large enough then they start charging. 3. I think normal US debit card is better. Combine that with moneymatch/instarem (if you have US bank acciunt) 4.Not sure. And referring to 3), what I meant was malaysia local debit card such as Maybank/cimb bank. Thanks |

QUOTE(kaiserreich @ May 18 2018, 02:56 PM) 1. Always pay in local currency. Let the CC convert. Thank you very much for the feedback. Greatly appreciate it2. No fees for Bigpay until further notice 3. More convenient if all your funds are from MYR 4. see above posts Not recommended to open bank account unless needed. Some banks charge monthly fees if you do not maintain minimum balance. Last I checked, some famous banks like WellsFargo or Chase need $1000 min or they charge you monthly fee $12. Some Credit Unions don't charge anything and you get a debit card. Some banks charge debit card fees. best to ask the people over there for options. For cash withdrawal, few options 1. Use bigpay, pay Rm10 each withdrawal. 2. Open Citibank account in Malaysia. Citibank can do withdraw at any Citibank ATMs worldwide for free. But not sure about exchange rate. 3. You can survive without cash in US. Can buy $1 mineral water and pay with card at Walmart, nobody cares. If you need to buy stuff from US sites that only accept US cards, you can go get those supermarket debit cards. Some charge fees for reload, so best to ask locals, or do your own research |

QUOTE(Ramjade @ May 18 2018, 10:50 PM) kaiserreich Hi, thank you for your suggestion.I will give you another different advise. Best to open a US bank account. Why? 1) you are unlikely to visit the US again. Why regret say 10 years down the road that you did not open account. Open 2 so you can keep the US account "active" 2) opening a US bank account open you up to cheap investment option in US as you are able to move money easily between brokerage 3) it's awlays good to have bank account overseas There are so many US banks offering free bank account. 1) why do you suggest to open 2 accounts? Is it so that I can make some transaction between the 2 accounts through online banking so as to keep it active? 2) which bank do you suggest me to open without any minimum balance or annual fee for maintaining the account? 3) what type of account should I open? Savings account only? Or current account too? Highly appreciate your reply |

Hi guys, I'm trying to link the card to my PayPal account and pay someone via USD.
Is there any way to bypass the cross border fee by PayPal by utilising the 0% fee from this card? I tried paying $800 directly from the card via PayPal and was charged rm2475, that's 3% cross border fee by PayPal. |

Hi guys, just wondering whether anyone have tried using bigpay in foreign countries for example Dubai/Qatar or US? This is because I will be travelling and staying in US for a few months and am thinking of utilizing bigpay for the best exchange rate in the US. Is there any limitations or US local law that might interfere with the working principle of bigpay? Thanks

QUOTE(kenlui @ Jul 16 2018, 08:49 AM) In SG currently, withdrew from UOB atm with no extra charge. Hey, what do you mean by "higher"? Is it cheaper to convert per RM or is it more expensive? Don't really understand the meaning of "the rate will be higher"As for exchange wise, slightly higher compared to xe.com, and after adding in the RM10 charge by BPM, the total conversion rate will be higher than those currency exchange in MV ady. |

QUOTE(kenlui @ Jul 16 2018, 09:36 PM) More expensive compared to change to SGD at a currency exchanger in midvalley. But I only withdrew 200SGD which was RM593.15 from BPM, XE rate was RM592.75, but after adding RM10 for the atm charge it was a total of RM603.15. Based on kl remit exchange in MV, the rate was 2.965 so RM593. So I had to pay RM10 extra for the convenience. No idea why KL remit exchange's rate was the so good. This was all based on 14/7 rate. QUOTE(lamode @ Jul 16 2018, 09:47 PM) For the RM10 fees from BP, I would say the withdrawal amount has to be higher to make it worth it. Would like to know that if for example I withdraw cash in an ATM in US, would there be any currency conversion fee or cross border fee incurred? If I'm not mistaken, normal ATM card charges those fees for ATM cash withdrawal overseas right? Correct me if I'm wrong, will be staying overseas for a few months hence carrying cash for the whole period of time is not a good idea, would like to save every pennies if possible. On the other hand, even for the amount you mentioned, I would just use BP anyway, since it costs me time + money to travel to MV for exchange, not to mention the super long queue at changer. |
