Very simple
All you need is another mac. It can be a PowerPC Mac , Intel Mac and heck even a Hackintosh with FireWire will do. Boot your Mac in targeted FireWire mode (hold the T key) and you should see the firewire logo. Connect the firewire cable to both PCs and you should see the HDD. Now just transfer your important files
