I was skyping yesterday night and suddenly the sign of a programme not respoding appeared. I though i could just force quit the unresponding programme but i couldn't.
Then, i force shut down my macbook. When i tried to start my macbook again, only a white gray screen appear.
I want back my files!! Important!
Any suggestion of what should i do? data recovery is kinda expensive..

I would just send it back to where I bought it from and ask for a fix.

try booting from the DVD that came with your macbook
or some of the key combinations like COMMAND+S for
safe mode.

Once you get in then you can back up your data and
send it for repair. Hold down C for booting from DVD.

- yap

This is also an option worth consideration. RM160 is also quite reasonable if it's gurantee you get all your DATA back.

heh heh. you newbs smile.gif
HDD manufacturers do not ever guarantee or warranty your data. that's your responsibility as users smile.gif
Apple will replace you a new HDD. that's as far as the "under warranty how can they say cannot fix??" goes

Very simple

All you need is another mac. It can be a PowerPC Mac , Intel Mac and heck even a Hackintosh with FireWire will do. Boot your Mac in targeted FireWire mode (hold the T key) and you should see the firewire logo. Connect the firewire cable to both PCs and you should see the HDD. Now just transfer your important files

If data recovery for dead HDD is RM160, it's darn cheap. It's either you got a great deal or your HDD isn't dead; just OS corruption.

the firewire target boot mode will be the best option if you have 2 computers...if not try booting it with the OS disk and repair the disk and it's permissions first... if that does not work... try other disk utility alternatives like disk warrior...
