Subject: Problems Encountered On The Brand New Proton Persona (SJA XXX Z)
Hi XXX1
I'm writing to you to express my uttermost disappointment in build quality of the new Proton Persona. Allow me to explain more I have been facing a lot of problem with car since the day that I took delivery of the car which is 30 Nov 2007. The problems that I'm currently facing consist of poorly designed right mirror that has focusing problem which make reverse and parallel parking extremely difficult. Both the right and the rear view mirror had focusing problems which makes them function like a magnifying glass. Kindly please see the rest of the faults that I have encountered over the past one month in point form below.
Right and rear view mirror focusing problem (magnifying glass effect)
Noisy Engine - Loud noise even when the vehicle is stationary (Suspect air/fuel ratio or air intake problem)
Faulty fuel gauge (Incorrect reading, needle at ¾ even when I pump full tank and petrol warning lights up when the total mileage is just 280KM)
Noisy air conditional (Please check the compressor)
Central locking/Immobilizer intermittent faulty (Unable to unlock or disarmed the vehicle using the remote and the vehicle is able start using key when it is armed) this poses security problem especially when driving into Malaysia.
Transmission - loss of acceleration power during gear shifting.
Weak engine - Have to rav up to 3000K RPM to get the reasonable power to move the vehicle (Facing power lost during up hill driving) for your info I don't get this problem in my formal 5 years old Toyota Corolla (1.3L)
On board computer showing incorrect fuel information (Suspect fuel sensor or ECU faulty)
Fuel tank problem (Cabin full of petrol smell after top up and I suspect either there is a problem with the fuel tank or fuel line)
On the Christmas Eve which is 24 Dec 2007 I sent my vehicle to Taban gardens for servicing/repair and was told by your engineer that my fuel pump is faulty which might have caused the incorrect reading. They had my fuel pump replaced and advised me to monitor the problem. I was driving the vehicle for the past 1 week after the repair and the problem reoccurred.
At first I thought this vehicle's fuel consummation might be on the high side as the engine is not seasoned and that was the benefit of doubt that I gave Proton. However I was wrong base on figure that was printed on the receipt issued by the petrol station. Let us do some mathematical calculation supposing the fuel tank capacity is 50L and if the tank is empty the amount of fuel that I would have pumped would be 40L plus excluding the patrol in the reserved tank.
However this was not the case my receipt was showing that I had only pumped 31L plus of petrol which means I had a left over of 19L plus of petrol in the fuel tank. I then feedback this to my sales agent Ray Lee and Ray simply said other customers does not have the above mentioned faults and I'm the only special one that reported the above mentioned faults. What makes me boiled is Ray said the high fuel consummation is due to my driving style and I don't know what he meant and I think there is nothing wrong with my driving style.
If the fuel consummation of the Proton Persona is really that high then I would say that the persona's fuel economy is worst than a Honda DC 5, Mazda RX8 and other performances cars available in the market. Performances car produces results and performance and I willing to pay for its premium (Petrol) but the persona is just a normal family sedan and such high fuel consummation is not acceptable.
Base on the above mentioned complains I felt that these faults should not be happening to a new car given the fact that this vehicle has already passed the QC before it is allowed to be exported. However this was not the case for my car which causes doubts in me and my confidents in Proton is at rock bottom after this incident. I also doubt the ability of Proton service center engineers to diagnose the problem of my car. If Proton is unable to have my problems rectify please let me know and I have my car fixed in the workshop of my choice and I claim the repair/servicing charges from Proton.
My dad is on his way to Taban Gardens to meet up with your engineers and discuses about my car and what can it be done to have the above mentioned rectify once and for all. Please understand we have to work and our leaves and time offs are limited we DO NOT have the time of keep sending the vehicle for repairs/servicing and if I'm required to leave car at workshop and I would no car to use is Proton going to pay for my daily cab fare or rental fees of the rented car due to loss of use of my car? I really hope Proton is able to have the above mentioned faults rectified once and for all otherwise I would have to seek a second opinion from the workshop of my choice and make claims from Proton should there by any charges.
Please understand we are not trying to make things difficult for your organization but please take into consideration that the above mentioned faults on a new car is NOT ACCTABLE at the consumer's level as Proton has already done QC and we as consumer expects the product to be in a tip top condition!
Thanks/Regards
