New PS3 Firmware Allows PS2 Game HDD Installation

Listen to this! According to the Japanese PlayStation.com page, today's update also allowed users to put PlayStation 2 game installs on the PS3's hard drive. That's besides stabilizing PS3 software.

Eds Note: So according to Strategy Informer: "Seems that the Japanese website is actually detailing information about compatibility with Final Fantasy XI, which required a HDD for the PS2. So, any games that require HDD installs for the PS2 will now work on the PS3." Cruuuuuuud. Nothing to get *that* excited about! Well, unless you're stoked to play FFXI on your PS3 it is.

yes, you can skip updates if you don't sign-in to PSN or play the newest games.

2.17 din't add any new features but only some bug fixes for online connections.

thanx for the reply..

I'm missing a lot of the ps3 fun which is playing online.. bought my ps3 last year..only can get screamix next month or so
to play online... hopefully there's no problem with installing the fixedline...

all this while play solo or just invite friends to my home to play fifa08 tournament..

just bought UT3 but very boring to play single... i think that game best if played online...

The checksum is right in the PUP's URL (one level up of the .PUP). Yeah PS3 definitely checks Sony's signature before updating.

THanks for the info. Apparently I went ahead and did it before reading this post. Update runs fine for me though. Improvements in some oneline games? Well it didnt help COD4 much. I keep getting invites from neoardi, ali_83, GabeMK, kuya_abe but all failed to connect or server is full. mehhhhhhhhh.
