The discussions in this thread makes me miss Uniten..my classmates..those nice lecturers..the environment. I can’t wait to see my classmates for the coming convokesyen which is on August!!
To all those new student, hope you enjoy the orientation. I did enjoy mine and even influenced me to become the fasilitator twice.
Btw, I’m IT graduates. If you have any questions on those lecturers and subjects regarding IT..feel free to ask me  biggrin.gif

p/s Wow..the apartment fees are bloody expensive..those MPP must be sleeping a lot.

glad to hear that u r it graduates... icon_idea.gif

so..how's the lecturer??is it ok or boring??
the college..the subject...how is it??

i can't stop thinking bout all those thing... icon_question.gif

i'm soooo worry....isk2... unsure.gif

Timeslot is given specific times for you to register for example like your timetable and apartment application. You will know your timeslot when you log in to your own student page. You will find out more about it during the orientation because there will be one section for those IT student to register Co-curriculum subject.

Bout the lecturer, it depends. Different lecturers have different personalities. Maybe when you receive your timetable, you can share with me those lecturers name. I’m able to tell you more about them if they have teach me before.

Just like what dlwl said, don’t worry too much. Just go by the flow
Just raise your problem to those facilitator during the orientation..they will definitely able to help you laugh.gif

staying at the hostel is a must for foundation student or not??
coz i'm thinking want to stay at home bcoz uniten only 15 mins from my house...

Added on June 7, 2008, 10:32 pm

bout the car there is no prob at all...hehe..

already preset our timetable??erm..
8 am class??duuhh... doh.gif
*
You are compulsory to stay at the hostel during the orientation but you may choose not to continue stay in hostel after the orientation ended. Actually its quite fun to stay in the hostel as long as you got the nice roommate and housemates. If you are lucky enough to get housemates who are doing the same course as you, you guys can help each other..

QUOTE(dlwl @ Jun 7 2008, 11:17 PM)
no it's not a must. i have many friends staying outside of uniten. but for the orientation week i think you are required to stay in the hostel. nice la you have house near uniten. like my friend, everyday parents send, just like going school only..haha. can save on petrol  thumbup.gif

timetable already preset, but luckily for me not all 8am classes. the most also 1 day only got 8am class. the rest all 9am, some days 10am. laugh.gif

btw, when enter 1st year degree 1st sem, our timetable already preset or we choose ourself?
*
Timetable already preset during your first year degree but if you are not satisfied you can change it but depend on your luck

1. It's a must to attend the 1 week orientation right? Do some people like skip the orientation after the first day or something?

2. When would the foundation students get their time table? Does the one on the internet applies to the foundation year??
*
1. Yup, 5 days orientation..Normally it will end on Friday evening. Nop. You can't skip the orientation and you don't even have the chance to skip it. The fasilitator will track you down since they have your phone number and he/she will know which apartment that you are staying in.

2. There will be one section during the orientation where you will be teach on online registration for subject. At that time, you will print out your timetable at the end of the section.

QUOTE(skinnydude @ Jun 11 2008, 02:31 AM)
for ladies, the dress code is kind of lenient. compared to guys. just dont wear sexy and revealing clothes. other than that, everything is good. jeans and t-shirt wouldn't be a problem.

3 years i have been studying in uniten but i have never heard girls getting "sound" by lecturers. guys r the ones usually kena..  tongue.gif

during orientation the facilitators would say many rules and regulations but u dont have to follow everything.

on mondays, if u r going to the administration building, also known as BA wear formal clothes. like what the working ladies would wear. dont wear skirt, t-shirt and etc. u can get yourself into trouble. but if u r going to the engineering building for class, u r free to wear anything.

dont worry to much. say to your mum the same thing. oil price has increased, so dont spend on buying new clothes.  rclxms.gif
*
I need to add something here..For girls, you can wear skirt on Monday..but below the knees.
COIT lecturers are very strict in your attire especially for guys. Guys compulsory to wear tie and ID on Monday. You are not allowed to enter the library if you are not wearing tie on Monday as well.

Gently reminder for those girls especially non-muslims, please do not wear shorts to the Accommodation office. You will definitely chased out by them.

To sweeneyT, I'm an ex-fasi for orientation but I didn't handle those transfer credit student's. But so far there is no prob between fasi n those students. If I'm not mistaken, for transfer credit student you will have less session in orientation. Hope you will enjoy the orientation smile.gif

QUOTE(dlwl @ Jun 10 2008, 11:29 PM)
haha. exactly. that was the hell part. reminds me of some army camp. and when siren on, the facilitators will come knocking at your room door. about the notification i dunno la. last time they gathered us all at dinner, and then give a short briefing of what and when the orientation really starts.
*
Imagine those fasi who even slept late than the students and wake early just to wake u all up. That was the tiring part of all. Anyway, there will be fasi stand by the whole night in case of emergency.

most crucial thing~

what about the loan aah?
for foundie got loan not?
when do we have to deal with this loan stuff?
apply loan before daftar kat uniten or after?

still very blurr about this issue..
any seniors can shed some light on this??
i'll be forever grateful~
*
I'm not sure whether there is Wi-Fi connection in Pahang campus but If I'm not mistake there is internet connection via LAN. My sis was a graduates (2 years ago) from Pahang Campus.
There is loan if I'm not mistaken. There will be one session during the orientation regarding loan. So you have to be alert with it.

My sis was a Finance student but she graduated last 2 years. She's the first batch of Pahang campus. U guys r consider very2 lucky. During my sis time, their lectures n accommodation was in the same building and they even have to share the Dewan which is the Dewan Orang Ramai at that time. There is even student's who cried during the 1st day of registration because of the worst condition. Later on left because could not take it..But now what we have in Bangi campus is equivalent in Pahang Campus and even I heard the MPH in Pahang much bigger than Bangi's smile.gif

I'll try my best to answer ur questions on Foundation IT course. I hope it still can be applied to u all since my Foundation year was 4 years back..

For your first semester, based on the reference from the uniten website..Foundation in Information Technology will be taking these following subjects:

1. Computer Literacy
- From the name you can guess..is all about basic about computer..like history of computers, what r computer consist of..theory subject but there is lab session for it where u guys will be taught on Visual Basic Programming.

2. Modern Applied Maths
- A little bit advance of secondary school Maths. If you like Maths, there should b no prob.

3. Introduction to Malaysian Constitution
- In Malay it is called Perlembagaan Malaysia which is Malaysia Law. Not a favourite subject for everyone coz too theoretical. U need to memorize a lot of Articles. rclxub.gif

4. Academic Study Skills
- Bout this subject..I'm not sure how to explain it n I dun really remember bout this subject..Maybe any of thread member could help..

5. Co-Curriculum
- You guys can choose one co-curriculum from Swimming, Kayaking, Golf, Aerobics and Horse Riding.

6. English
- English subject. Grammar, Essay writing n etc

Basically is all depend to individual to get good grades. My advises will be:
1. pay attention during the lectures. take down the notes especially if the lecturer keep repeating the same point..it might come out for the exam.
2. come for every classes bcoz certain subject attendance is included as carry marks. For me 5% is still important
3. do your best for in-class assignment n lab assignment.
4. take ur own initiative to meet the lecturer if u hv trouble in that particular subject. *it depends on certain lecturer
5. go to the library n photostat past year/semester exam question coz some of the lecturers love to repeat the questions. *Side back is it doesn't provide answers

I hope with this advises it will help u guys/girls to get good grades biggrin.gif It is very important to maintain your cgpa 3 and above. It is crucial to get a good start from Foundation itself, do not listen to them that Foundation is a honeymoon year. I've seen a lot of friends who repeated Foundation course and some even could not continue for Degree because could not meet the minimum requirement.

some info for gamers: all apartment have internet connection.. all apartment is interconnected.. so there will be a large LAN connection between uniten student in uniten apartment. There are intranet community within uniten LAN. There are also intranet websites... for file sharing purpose, (anime n tvseries) and also a lot of game server.. such as unitenbnet ( almost 70 players online every night ) CS,RO, Lineage 2, WOW, and many more.. currently... the most popular game in uniten LAN is DotA , CS, RO and WOW..  Sometime... an independent group will organize a LAnparty for uniten student...
conclusion: Uniten is a nice place for gamers.. but pls dun skip class because of these game.

what is meant by HOT is... their clothing makes them so HOT until u eye ball melt.
*
Gosh..I miss intranet websites the most..You can get the latest drama/song/video from those websites..
