QUOTE An HD CRT will almost always look better than an HD LCD or plasma TV, as CRT boasts deeper, more vibrant color. CRT TVs can also render a wide variety of resolutions, from 480i up to 1080p (if supported), without losing quality through downsampling or upsampling. In contrast, an LCD or plasma TV has a designated "native" resolution that must be hit (say, 720p); anything above or below this number will usually look muddy or blurry as the signal must be converted. This is especially true for interlaced formats like 480i and 1080i CRT may beat both plasma and LCD in terms of picture quality, but they are enormously heavy, with larger sets weighing up to 200 pounds. The key selling point to plasmas and LCDs is their sleek size and light weight, in addition to solid picture quality. hahahaha.. this is the one i'm looking for.. but.. does malaysian market has hd crt?? |

The HD CRT thing is pretty much accepted in general. You have to deal with contrast ratios and response time when looking at LCD and Plasma TVs. To quote many other opinions on the web, CRT will always offer the "blackest blacks", while black levels are usually not black enough on comparable LCD and Plasma TVs. For example, if you look at lower end LCD TVs with a contrast ratio of 3000:1, you might notice some hints of green colour when looking at black colours on the TV screen.
Another thing to note when selecting LCD or Plasma TVs is the response time, measured in miliseconds. The lower the number, the better. For example, a 2ms response time is better than a 16ms response time. If the response time is too high, you'll see something that is commonly referred to as lag, but lovingly called "HDTV Lag" in this HDTV era. CRT TVs don't have to deal with response time, since the image is displayed at the same time it is drawn on the tube. So yes, HD CRT can and do look better than LCD or Plasma. Think of CRT TVs as the standard by which LCD and Plasma TVs are measured against. So why do people bother with LCD or Plasma? Size and space would be the main factor. I used to game on my Toshiba 29" HD CRT. It looked great when running any of my consoles. However, I have two main gripes with the TV: it isn't widescreen, so games that support widescreen will have black bars on the top and bottom of the TV, reducing the viewing area. The second reason is my main gripe: it weighs about the same as a baby elephant or something. And this is only 29". Let's just say that if AV makers decide to release a 50" HD CRT I doubt there will be any substance inside people's home that can withstand the extreme weight... |

They didn't mention one thing which destroys a HD CRT. Geometry problems. Out of 50% of the HD CRTs on the market(theres not many left anyways), they have geometry issues and even some has color bleeding all over the edges of the screen(I'm looking at you, Samsung Slimfit).
Superb quality as it is for a HD CRT, it still isn't an ideal display for gaming. Not to mention, HD CRTs only comes at 32" screen size tops. |

i disagreed with the myth that backward compartibility is not a crucial feature as i bought the Wii partly because it plays GC games, and know for a fact most Wii users are not past GC owners judging from the message boards on Gamefaqs and the sudden surge of GC game prices on the second hand market.
it may not matter much for Sony as they are gunning for their past customers whom probably owned a PSOne & PS2 before this (i still think it's a grave mistake to leave it out for the 40GB model) but for Nintendo who aims to capture the non-gamer community, it's dead crucial. |

Sony leaving out BC is a mistake, but its a grave one? I don't really think so. Considering majority of PS3 owners owns a PS2, I don't see the point in playing a PS2 game on a PS3. Except you really are that stubborn wanting the 1080p up-conversion.
