QUOTE(R a D ! c 4 L @ Jan 10 2008, 12:06 AM) hehe. no idea on how far aperture to contribute to sharpness. definitely not at the widest la. just drop a few stops should be sufficient. f11 is damn far man.QUOTE(wjie20 @ Jan 10 2008, 12:17 AM) SS = shutter speed a.k.a. exposure lorbtw 8 pages to? 2000 posts? start v2 at 2,500 mah. but no la we don't spam like Kopitiam retards. their posting speed is on hyperdrive when it's a few pages away from 2,500. nutsos. |

on. different la. kit lens you cover 18-55 usually. (Canon la)
the 50mm f1.8 is fixed-focal length lens, meaning you can't zoom. they're used for different purpose. |

QUOTE(myjunk @ Jan 10 2008, 01:16 AM) Sorry... I just saw some posts about the sigma lens @ 1.2K and I read that you have used something of that sort. how to compare la.I believe you have sigma and canon lenses right? So how about comparing between them? my Canon lens are kit lens 18-55, 50mm f1.8 II my Tamron lens 70-300mm my Sigma 18-200 OS as you can see, all also different class. price also different. it's like RM 300 vs RM 300 vs RM 700 vs RM 1700 leh. edited : pricing above are estimated la......... but the 18-200 OS was really RM 1.7k anyway seriously, CANON wins la when the L appears. the others, you get them either because they're cheaper or.........well usually because they're cheaper, or no better option. like Sigma 10-20 on full-frame. want to compare, should compare similar functionality la. like say Canon EF 70-200 F2.8L vs Sigma 70-200 F2.8 , the Canon will be the winner la. more pricey but the results are better. yup. 70-200 F2.8L IS USM is also damn heavy too!
i'm eyeing on the 70-200 F4L. probably go for IS version. problem is the IS version is like going to break my bank even further. |

QUOTE(s7ran9er @ Jan 10 2008, 01:35 AM) I seldom use the Kitlens, can anyone try convince me why should I use it? Why should you use kit lens? let's see........ ![]() Album ![]() Album ![]() Album ![]() Album ![]() Album sure, many people will tell you "kit lens" suck but don't let them get you down. Added on January 10, 2008, 1:56 amI'd like to add. people will eventually progress from their kit lens as there are many better lens out there, but that doesn't mean kit lens can't produce nice images. QUOTE(tongyam @ Jan 10 2008, 10:54 AM) sure np. to me those shots are nice. i've placed them at various places and people like them.so i think it's sufficient to prove a point that kit lens does it's job. even if i re-use them. don't worry, no offense taken. EDITED : why re-use? cos no more new shots with kit lens la. it got replaced. This post has been edited by goldfries: Jan 10 2008, 06:09 PM |

what kind of events? sufficient depends on what event you're taking i find.
if you can upgrade, please do. i used kit lens before covering some event, quite often you wish you have something like 17-50 f2.8 or 17-40 F4L. EDITED : i'm assuming you're referring to the usual 18-55 3.5 - 5.6 kit lens that comes with 350D / 400D la. not other kit lens that's with IS or on other body types. QUOTE(cypher @ Jan 10 2008, 05:44 PM) for the kit lens come with the body, cannot la, unless u have nice place to stand and take, else so far ... you thinking of fashion show alone or what? not all events you cover from far. try going to events, you see their OPs (who use Canon) use use Canon 17-40 F4L, 24 -70 F2.8L, 24-105. they're not using Tele. FYI 24-70 on a full frame the coverage is similar to our 18-55 on APS-C cameras. the 17-40 covers even less, but wider la. rarely i come by anyone take out 70-200, again this depends on their position vs the point of highlight. |

which is my point lor. you're just talking in the context of the event that you attended.
IMO it really depends on how are you covering the event and what is the setting. personally i find the kit lens is alright on bright settings and close distance. snap already, who's going to ask you what lens you use? in low light conditions, the aperture capability of the lens helps a lot. kit lens at 55mm f5.6 in low-light just doesn't cut it ler. Added on January 10, 2008, 6:03 pm QUOTE(cypher @ Jan 10 2008, 05:58 PM) dinner can la..lolz most dinner their lighting is pretty dim. kit lens will have a hard time. use flash lor. hehe. 70-300 at dinner? good luck finding a good place to stand to get decent coverage. after using kit lens a while, you'll find it's limitation la. my kit lens undergone phase 1 replacement already. QUOTE(shockk @ Jan 10 2008, 06:10 PM) yeah. goldfries. you're right. i think you seen my shots la. just wondering why not many shots from people using the kitlens for taking pics of events here. if you have, it would be great if you could share here. hehe QUOTE(cypher @ Jan 10 2008, 06:11 PM) |

about the hood - really depends on you la.
for me, i like hood when it's like drizzling or perhaps wanting to avoid glare. with my CPL on, the hood would obstruct my access. QUOTE(valho @ Jan 10 2008, 10:04 PM) no they won't, light is capture from the subject you are shooting, so you can practically keep the hood on all the time, except when shooting close-up, for close-up the hood shadow might fall on your subject well, the shadow would be there if you're using FLASH. if you're already having a setup with light sources some where, i doubt it'll even cast a shadow. but seriously, when doing indoor photography (like on toys and such) - who mounts their lens hood? i don't. anyone of you do? another time when i really love to have the lens hood on is when i'm shooting paintball events. the pellet travels at 300 feet per second. you wouldn't want that to hit your lens, right? the hood helps. it covers the lens, so the angle to hit the lens is reduced. i usually protect it with 2 layers of UV filter + a towel on top of my lens and body. |

hehe on some lens, the barrel is so long that using on-body flash would surely cast shadow.

if showing your pictures, start your gallery is better.
so how's your sigma KREK? still happening? today i went out for a shoot, it happened once or twice, that time i think i was pointing upwards. again it's rare. something that i just can't seem to re-create. EDITED : if you're showing picture to set a point through or using it as something to ask, then just use the IMG button and paste image URL there. can upload your pictures to the usual places like FLICKR. it looks something like CODE This post has been edited by goldfries: Jan 11 2008, 12:01 AM |
