What is the procedure to acquire a gun in Malaysia legally for the reason of self defense/security measurement?


-i am referring to a semi-automatic gun (not fully automatic,shotgun or highly sophisticated machine gun)

I hold only a pistol and rifle before, the rifle is damn facking heavy.

Shotgun? Sometimes they have this 'Kempen tembak gagak', is to keep our place clean. Any shooters are welcome but most of them are using shotgun of course. Each gagak caught, they will pay you RM2. The bullet alone already cost RM1. Of course can get cheaper than this...

My friend's dad got 2 rifle at home. His dad is a hunter, mainly target 'Babi Hutan'. The place where he lived is some Kampung area but that place is not so lousy lare, he's staying at some double storey terrace, just that their area is located behind some hutan area.

Why can't they legalise BB guns or paint ball gun.At least its not that lethal and still can provide us with a mean of protecting ourself

paint ball if not mistaken can be own legally with licence but need tuning to maintain that it shoots below 300ft/sec.. BB gun on the other hand, fires at a higher speed. Higher speed = more energy = higher chance of penetration and causing injury, thus, unable to obtain legally.

It is possible to get a bolt action for means of hunting, semis are very hard to get approval for, and automatics are just impossible, but the M24 is highly possible . For bolt actions it's just up to you to modify the rifle for tactical capabilities.

Once you have your remington 700 Get yourself a MacMillan Tactical Fiberglass stock and Barrel, or a Lilja one. A new trigger and proper personal adjustment is another good point. Larger bolt handles and a slighly reinforced action are cheap and can be brought in without trouble. Proper cheek and stock padding isn't that hard to order online and have shipped to your house without customs issues. Last if not least, do yourself a favour and get good optics like a Nikon Monarch, Zeiss or Schmidt and Bender with Leupold or Unertl mount rings. A good spring action bipod might help too.

Dem, a totally legal hunting rifle is nao awesome. Only the barrel and stock might be hard to bring in, but just go overseas and stick it in your luggage and you're home free. The rest are simple to bring in as they're pretty small.

I mean you can legally get a Remington SPS Tactical 700 (less than 1K USD), look almost the same as a M24 (either a .223 or a .308) for hunting, .223 is enough, why pay more for a 7.62 when a 5.56 can kill a wild boar.

Airsoft is relative safer than paintball, because it is shooting BB is few grams or .22 cal (i think), where paintball is firing .68 cal (alot bigger). Most airsoft player only need sunglasses, paintball needs certified mask.

Upgrading airsoft to be more than 300ft need specially made parts from the original manufacturer, thus it is easier to stop people from upgrading; paintball marker can easily turn up to 400ftp (just need a allen keY)

U dun own the animals in the forest, unless u make a living in forest as hunter. U kill ur own chicken, pig, and cow yes, becos you rear them.

dont buy guns in thailand. my uncle bought one of those and it dont work. And yes, its damn expensive, RM1500 each, comes with free 7 bullets. The trigger malfunctions and the bullet fails to reload almost constantly. And the pak guards you see in the bank, they only carry those shotguns without their ammo. And those crime stories you heard on the news, they use stolen guns from the army or bought them from a corrupt officer. Every year, 250 guns from all police departments in malaysia are reported missing and researches on this matter is usually taken lightly by the cops.
These guns, purchased from the cops cost a crapload to own, you need to dish out 6000 to 7000 each, but at least you got a new, hi quality pistol, reportedly made in america. The only setback is, its illegal to own one. Death penalty is only applicable for singaporean citizens that owns an illegal firearm in singapore, but in malaysia, only prison and 10 strokes of lashes.
About shotguns... My granpa got one but now he's deceased so the cops got a hold to it. And again for those ppl who wondered, wtf did the criminals got the shotguns in the news? Its either from 1960's where each villagers are given a free shotgun to protect their homes from communists or they stole it from the police or from the pak guards.

Any dolts with decent knowledge of firearms can tell if a gun is in good conditions.

Check the wear on parts like the ramp, extractor, inner slide and so on. Check mag springs and follower. Triggers shouldn't have too much slack and so on lah. Barrel should not have pitting and head space should not be excessive.

And the maximum penalty of owning illegal weapons is death in Malaysia. Well documented, just look the relevant laws up.

You can, just have a good reason (eg; your ex keeps trying to kill you and the police have not been able to get there on time to nab him, you're also a target due to the fact you carry alot of cash on you and so on)

Legally there is a lot of procedural requirements for you to comply with. The main 4 grounds for applying a license here is self-defense, protection of crops or lifestock, recreation or hunting.

Since you're going for self-defense, you would have to provide documents and reasons showing that the nature of your work or lifestyle would require you to carry a gun around. Unless if you're a public prosecutor or some bodyguard, the police would not grant you a permit. If that's the case, every person would get a handgun. Even if you do succeed in acquiring a gun license, you would still have to apply for a license to carry a concealed weapon around. You are then only permitted to carry a handgun chambering 22.cal rounds.

Keep in mind that self-defense is not an easy defense to use in court. You can't go around shooting people up for the mere fact that they grabbed you from behind or flashed a knife at you. You'd have to prove that the person posed a threat to you or another, that the threat was imminent, the use of force was NECESSARY and the amound of force used is REASONABLE to the circumstances. And under circumstances, people would choose to run away.

That's the problem with people who want to own guns because they think it's cool or because they intend to be criminals. They don't do their homework and learn up on guns, or handle such weapons in a controlled environment until they're familiar with it. They think it's just about loading up the mag, shoving it into the gun, rack the slide and squeeze the trigger.

Legitimate buyers should at least know how to take down the weapons and check parts for wear, clearance, etc. before we purchase one. The usual stuff that we can afford would be second-hand guns from the police. I know people who have bought 2nd-hand Glocks and HK USPs from the police force. Fortunately, so far the condition of their weapons are okay because the cops usually turn their weapons to the armory or a gunsmith if they feel there's any problems with them.

From what I know bro, illegal gun possession in Malaysia will result in a long imprisonment only.. 7 years or 10 years or something. But, illegal manufacture of a gun, whether it's assembling it out of smuggled parts, or even making a homebrew rifle capable of shooting projectiles that can cause fatality, would result in either a death penalty or imprisonment for life.

License and permits for concealed carry is pretty hard to obtain in Malaysia. You gotta be a multi-millionaire or working in a high-risk environment to own one. The easiest way to get a permit for concealed carry is to take up law and work for the AG Chambers as a DPP when you graduate . I think there are numerous civil service departments in which the officers are allowed concealed carry licenses and permits.

As for owning rifles, the quickest way is to get a license and permit for that is to own a piece of land. But the approval will take quite a long time in some cases. It would help if you're a member of a gun club, or an armed body such as RELA, Police Reserves or Wataniah to begin with. It would indicate that you're familiar with firearms, you have the necessary trigger discipline and you could be a responsible firearm owner. But even then, the sort of rifles that the license allows you to own are single-shot ones. Most of the time you're stuck with bolt-action rifles. They can have magazines but it's gotta be bolt-action. Under normal circumstances you're not allowed to own an auto-loader, even though it's a single-shot semi-auto rifle. However, the decision lies with the chief of police for the state in which you live, so if you have the necessary connections, you might just be able to own one. Gun licenses and permits are applied through Bukit Aman but the approval and annual renewal depends on the Chief of Police of the state that you're living in.

Well owning a gun can be considered very dangerous. Licensed or not its still the same. If someone somehow got to used your gun to shoot at someone then you'll be in deep shit.

Legalizing bb gun in Malaysia is neither a bad or a good thing. As we all know there are still many people who have a hell lot of free time and likes to cari pasal with just about anyone they dont like in the streets or in the kopitiams. What if BB guns are legalized, dont you think those kind of people will passers by they dont like with the BB guns? even though it is not lethal but it still hurts no? What if they shoot at people riding on moving bicycle or motorcycles? lols.
Some gas powered BB guns have rather higher firepower and they do fire ball bearings. Trust me when i say i once owned a gas powered M9 beretta. It has 99% resemblance to the real gun even with blow back and it can be disassembled so the only difference is that it fires 6mm BB rounds instead of real 9mm rounds. I bought it from a guy i know for RM600 but then later re-sold it at RM800 lols. I still own those rather weaker air pump powered and battery powered automatic ones.

My policy. If a person says the need a gun real bad, don't give it to them because 99 percent of the time, the shit they need the gun to solve, they brought it upon themselves.

And to give an untrained person a firearm is a liability.

Bad gun owners give good mature gun owners a bad name. Thus it is never in my interests to allow people to use guns illegally because it puts me in a bad light.

Like i said, never in my interests to help anyone procure a firearm illegally or for the wrong reasons. If you are truly genuine, you would have gotten a license for self protection easily, if you aren't, you wouldn't have a license. I don't think you have one.

I also believe in reminding other firearms owners of our obligations to public safety and to keep arms out the hands of persons who would obtain arms or use arms outside the prescribed purposes deemed acceptable within the law.

Go to the police, ask for your options and discuss it with an officer. If he really feels you are in danger, you can request an arms license.

Gun on the street. Yes, if you possess the right license to carry.

9mm glock is a bog standard gun. SAO Sig Sauer P226, Ed Brown 1911, Sphinx 3000, Beretta Vertec, Streyer Voight International and so forth are good pistols lol.
