It's not like they can just give the license. I mean you have to calculate, the only reason we are paying for expensive Nvidia motherboard is because of the R&D cost calculated. If they just give the license, who is going to uphold the cost of R&D on SLi technology ? Anyway Intel has the upperhand in the matter which is a bitz.
