QUOTE I should warn everybody now that the PCIe 2.0 bridge is actually a PCIe 2.0 to PCIe 1.1 bridge. What does this mean? Well, it means your PCIe 2.0 card will basically be bottlenecked at PCIe 1.1 speeds when communicating to the CPU. False marketing from NVIDIA. Here's a simple diagram of their "bridge": . PCIe 1.1 upstream port to HOST ..........______|_____ .........|..................| .........|...."Bridge"....| .........|..................| .........|___________| .............| | | | . PCIe 2.0 downstream ports to PCIe slots. The only improvement that you may see with this is that communicating between other GPU's through the PCIe slot will be at 2.0 speeds (which is highly unlikely because NVIDIA uses their SLI bridge connector, not the slot). AMD has TRUE PCIe 2.0 so EVERYTHING will be happening at 2.0 speeds. source: http://www.techpowerup.com/?45238 |

according to those discussion .. i would think that 780i is an updated 680i with extra pcie 2.0 bridge thrown in
the use of pcie 2.0 bridge is meant to increase intergpu communications and at the same time, it does not need to go through the northbridge.. while pcie 1.1 from 780i is sufficient to broadcast graphics data/command to those vga cards ... right???? lol this is sample diagram i understand from it.. (dun tembak me lahhhhhh, me noob) i'm assuming the 680i's update.. whoops.. i notice that 680i has onli 1 pcie 16x 1.1 from its northbridge... Reading up on it, but can't draw any conclusions before some pictars of the chipset itself are given with some relevant pin out data (the tracks are the easiest way to see the bus width)
Generally i can't be bothered to look for now as my exams are here |

herd that u cant oc properly (infact cannot at all) if you put intel 45nm CPU in this mobo due to the lack of support from intel. something to do with intel revenge on nvidia.

NVIDIA would not license their SLI technology to Intel cause it's the only way for them to maintain a healthy market for the NForce Motherboards...and Intel fights back by not giving them the full details on Penryn (and future processors) that NVIDIA needs to manufacture their motherboard. Sort of Corporate Espionage or Sabotage...whatever. Well...that's what we all heard. Not sure if it's true or not.

Wow.Thats why intel chipset mobo rarely seen them in SLi supported mode.Juz Crossfire.
Come on, just reach whatever agreement between them and get it going. Have business together earn( translate in cantonese) haha. In the end we users get to suffer.eg Intel CPU stability issues on nforce / no SLi forever for intel board. This post has been edited by Terence573: Dec 5 2007, 09:13 PM |

Well, considering nVidia's so lazy and incompetent on this model anyway, color me unsurprised. They were going to just add another chip on a 680i and sell it as a new board. Oh, and this: http://www.theinquirer.net/gb/inquirer/new...4/3sli-big-flaw I'll be laughing at whoever buys this board, for sure. Especially when 790i is coming so soon (not that I think it'll be vastly better, just above mediocre catch-up to X38/48 by then) |

but most detractor cant deny that
nVidia does make a simple thing exciting like tri-SLi, the mobo design even their generic model is better than the lame a$$ design by the bindus-bIntel. the most exciting 9or rather, exiting) is their "kapak rosak" series while nVidia churn out stuff, attention whore crave bragging rights.. |

Still, NVIDIA fails to deliver ever since NFORCE 5xx series...and it's just coincidence that INTEL produce better products then. If only they would license their SLI to Intel...They would sell more of their graphic cards then...

Sigh. After reading so many reviews on the web...I wonder if 780i is even worth it? Should we wait for 790i instead? It's an old picture from an old article, dated way back to 1st of Nov...
