Sounds like u guys are in IT support.
IMO, it is difficult to convince some companies migrate to some think like open-source due to these factors:
a) fear of lack of vendor support or backlash
b) fear that apps that work doesn't work anymore - their business will go downhill because of down time.
c) fear that they have to pay more training for Unix/OpenSource skills
b) long term costs not realised yet - savings in maintenance contract or licenses.
Most starter companies (small ones with less than 1mil in capital) are more willing to use open source
than established ones - then of course, then may not pay as well too.
Right now.. MS skills are actually more in demand than Unix but Unix skills command better premium.
Well said...
IMHO MS skills have more demands as wintel servers are quite cheap compare to unix/etc. but nowadays, there are too many wintel admin in the market. even now, unix admin are growing in the market and don't really can command a better pay..
