Actually MAS promotes its pilots based on seniority..you cannot 'jump cue'..you can be a ace-pilot but when it comes to selecting the right candidates for command training,seniority ALWAYS comes first..the fella ahead of you in the seniority list regardless of how good he really is as a pilot will get the slot..if 2 or more applicants have the same seniority number,then they will look at your performace(ie base check results,conversion course performance,line check results etc)Depends on how good the fella is also lah.If he is very good,climb faster.
