Here's the rest of my log while playing with my F3. For those who haven't read the first part, its here -> Link
Underclocking Btw, the fan is spinning, its just that the camera flash makes it look stopped. ![]() Seriously, take a good look at the temp ![]() Keep in mind this is under full load. Green line seems to be the motherboard's own CPU sensor, while Red line seems to be the core diode. However, I can't guarantee this, as the green line did give some very weird readings sometimes.. And on idle..its like the processor isn't running at all..its so cold... ![]() And this is something you don't see every day.. ![]() Hello..is the PC on? Its too quiet... Screenie-here you can see how I do my undervolting. I'm a bit disappointed that I couldn't reach my target speed at 0.8v, but its a substantial improvement over the F2. ![]() Here, the green line is still the CPU temp, but the red line is the PWM, and the grey line is supposedly the CPU core diode. On full load I encountered an unexpected problem. The CPU was still a long way off from overheating, but the onboard display kept freezing because the NB (which contains the GF6150) was starting to overheat because there was no air coming from the CPU fan. So I pulled off the 70mm stock heatsink fan and put it on the NB, setting it to the lowest power setting it could handle while still spinning. So after all that screwups, here's what I got. ![]() The temp hasn't peaked out yet, but I doubt it'll touch 60C even if I left it overnight. I was running short of time, so I had to get on with the overclocking. |

Overclocking (this is a repost of what my post in the AM2 OC thread
To be honest, there's not much to say this time, just a couple of screenies only. My initial OC with the F3 ![]() And for my OC record, which I did not have any time to optimise settings (I was in a hurry), » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « This post has been edited by lohwenli: Dec 14 2007, 08:36 AM |

QUOTE(cschun86 @ Dec 14 2007, 08:22 AM) >.<" Yeah, it was kinda warm, no aircon and only a miserable wall fan. Hardly the idea environment to be doing any real tweaking, but I didn't have much choice. Besides, I needed to be sure it was stable even under poor conditions.running at 0.8V only.... besides tat, ur room are quite hot? coz i saw ur temperature not really low.... |

QUOTE(zeustronic @ Dec 16 2007, 11:37 PM) Since u r adding hardware better change ur PSU 1st, insufficient power oso can cause hardware tempreture heat up quickly. I didn't notice this the first time reading though..but seriously wtf? Since when temps can go up when there's not enough power QUOTE(neoxz @ Dec 17 2007, 12:43 AM) If you boot it up, can you at least see the boot up screen (BIOS, the windows screen with the loading bar)? If yes, then the problem is with your display resolution and refresh settings-LCDs usually will not tolerate the same refresh settings as CRTs. If thats the case, here's how you can fix it, hit F8 just after the bios screen to call up the windows boot menu, if you get to the loading bar screen you've missed it already, restart and try again. Once you get to the boot menu, select Enable VGA Mode, then proceed with a normal startup. Windows will start with the lowest display settings, and then you can set it back up in windows. If you accidentally set the settings too high and the screen blacks out, don't do anything for 30 sec and it will return you to the last setting. |

QUOTE(cschun86 @ Dec 17 2007, 08:52 AM) @lowenli 1. Its about the same as the 8800gt. The 3850 is slightly cooler. Actual temp will depend on what cooler design the manufacturer chooses to use.rainingzero said u did research a lot of 3850 and 3870... few question wana ask you abt 3850... 1. what is the idle and load temperature for this card? I dun hope to see the card is on fire like 88series... 2. For the price RM660 is the 256mb one or 512mb one? 3. Got huge difference between this two version as I am going to use at 22" widescreen. 4. which brand have the best quality and performance? 2. I'm not sure, depends on where you're asking. My guess is probably 256mb for RM660, but I might be wrong. 3. Yes, if you intend to play games at your screen's native resolution. Resolution is the no 1 thing that makan video memory, followed by AA & Aniso filtering 4. This one I don't know..malas to read so many reviews..I like the palit and galaxy ones though, but feel free to pick your own, this is just my personal preference, not a recommendation. Try to get those with 1ns ram, the ram will be able to run 2000 for sure even if the card says only 1800. This post has been edited by lohwenli: Dec 17 2007, 09:12 AM |

QUOTE(cschun86 @ Dec 19 2007, 03:16 AM) Hey guys, 10 years?any recommendation PSU to get? wana get a decent PSU, prefer modular one... wan stablality and long last psu and can let me on 24/7/365/10years Even I also dare not make a recommendation..Most also I'm willing to say 5 years guaranteed, longer than that I can only be 80% sure it will still survive.. Among PSUs that have a chance to survive that long are server PSUs, or some But if you're willing to reduce your target to 5 years, then you can pick any 450W model or above from the selection below. Corsair (a bit expensive, but better than most, since manufactured by Seasonic) Coolermaster Real Power (the 1000W one is a seriously good, it better than quite a lot of other 1KW units) Tagan Acbel Thermaltake Toughpower 2nd priority picks (these PSUs are not actually bad, its just that there are some rumours I haven't fully checked out yet) FSP/Fortron Silverstone Antec QUOTE(sniper69 @ Dec 19 2007, 08:16 AM) This one overkill la..can power almost 3 units of his PC at once.. |

QUOTE(cschun86 @ Dec 19 2007, 09:44 AM) hmm... A 500-600W PSU will last you for at least another 1-2 upgrades, after that is hard to say, uncertain how things will be then. Generally for PC stuff now planning upgrades into the future further than 2 years is not practical.actually now I am looking for cosair one,e but the price aint cheap lol.... and SST one even higher... Changing PSU is a must for my current system d, just wana depends changing to what PSU.... why I need so long term PSU? coz I plan after upgrade this PSU, will temporary stop upgrading d, wana stick with the same system... Wait until abt 1.5 years or 2 years later, change a new system and wana bring the PSU forward, and I wana make sure the PSU that I gona change is powerful, stable, long last enough till next changes... |

QUOTE(rainingzero @ Dec 19 2007, 12:36 PM) but i'm wonder, mostly the hardware developer such as procs, and gc claim their latest product much more energy saving, lower power consumption bla bla, but from the past 2 years, wattage of PSU increased quite a lot... PSU makers cashing in due to the drastic price drop in high performance hardware=high power consumption. Frankly, even with quad core & SLI, its hard to get beyond 500-600W. And you'll know, because after half an hour for sure your room will feel damn warm..QUOTE(cschun86 @ Dec 19 2007, 01:21 PM) they didnt claim correctly lo, Increase? Not really. Pretty much for CPUs its topped out around 130W regardless of what CPU it is (of course overclocking not counted la). Its GPUs that are frightening these days, a 8800GTS/GTX/Ultra takes up more power than a typical CPU, and a 2900XT breaks all records, coming in at almost 200W for the card alone.they claim their product is more energy saving "per transister" but the implementation of the transister is increase and increase, even though the power per transister are drop, the overall power consumption are increasing QUOTE(rainingzero @ Dec 19 2007, 03:49 PM) my casing Alu, yeah, really nice if uc an borrow me the power drill. although we are engineering student, to sneak out to use all the tools a bit hard... Don't worry..I'll drag him out whenever possible..yeah, he really serious now...hope he still wanna hang out with us and go TT together... @cschun86, maybe tonight can go yam cha for COD the MX-2??still at nibong tebal arr?? |

I had a short sms conversation with KC last nite, he seems quite serious this time. In the meantime I will mantain our OC database.
TrOwA008 suggested we meet up more regularly, how about every month for a start? And perhaps can have a full day gathering sometime soon, we pool some money and rent a small hall somewhere, bring all our PCs and have our own lan/OC party. |

QUOTE(Dreamworks @ Dec 20 2007, 01:25 AM) I went to Gadget Zone Prai, but they told me all their branch also no stock Abit boards are typically buggy in some small way, but the price/performance & features is unbeatably good. Just need to play around a bit to iron out the bugs. Are there any other models/brands which are similiar/on-par with the DS3? I heard Abit IP35-E is quite buggy @gsan I need the board by next Monday, going for my studies and must set my comp up...
