Just met an acquaintance who recently got his Australian PR. He then move his entire family to a very outskirt town situated ~200km away from Sydney

To avoid overcrowding the major cities, Aus gomen only grant visa if you agree to stay away from Melbourne, Sydney & Brisbane up to 3 years

Because of that he has to settle with odd job in the local town that doesn't align with his past role

Although not perfect but I think this is a smart move from AU gomen

Maybe M'sia gomen can do the same when granting visa to expatriates - stay away from KL otherwise they'll jack up living cost there

Foreigners/expatriates already can't buy land in Malaysia, and are limited to purchasing properties worth more than at least RM1,000,000 in the urban areas

Kalau nak lebih rendah punya threshold, move to Kedah/Perlis/Sarawak

Yeah that's the idea...the threshold are lower to own properties elsewhere. To help revitalise the property market and business there

its been a thing for many years

but i dont think its related to PR, once PR can go anywhere

it is when first masuk, normally easier to get PR if go outskirts

Ayamz zhutGPT says :-

1️⃣ Big cities already gila crowded
Housing price rocket until nose bleed. Traffic also macam Hell Mode. Infrastructure cannot cope. So government purposely funnel migrants away first to reduce heat. (If still jam… Semua salahan Anthony Loke 🤣)

2️⃣ They want to “revive kampung” towns
Those rural / smaller cities got shortage of doctors, engineers, tradies, even basic workers. Migrants = new blood. Also helps prevent ghost towns.

3️⃣ Political optics
Aussie voters damn sensitive about immigration. If all migrants go Sydney/Melbourne, locals will rage mode:
“Steal job! Raise rent! Take our spot!”
So gov do this regional trick → still bring migrants → but publicly can say “See, we control one lah”. Win votes.

4️⃣ Economic carrot-stick strategy
You want PR? Okay lah, help us build the areas nobody wants first. Later we reward you.
Bit like “You scratch my back, I scratch yours”. If don’t like… tough luck lor 🤭

5️⃣ Reality pressure tactic
Honestly, also a way to “filter” those who really resilient. If people cannot tahan small town life, maybe gov also secretly okay if they balik or drop out. Less permanent intake = also what some politicians want.

Very sneaky right? hehe.

It's always been that way.
It's easier to get PR in smaller cities like Perth, Adelaide and very easy for Tasmania and NT.
