Nowadays we do not use anymore external disk drive or usb. All online.
Which storage do u recommend for long run? Dropbox, icloud, google drive, onedrive?
Which one offers greater upload and download speed and better bucks for storage?

onedrive is okay reliable if you just want auto sync with your phones especially if you use samseng phones. but i absolutely hate onedrive for desktop

I don't trust my data on the cloud. - One, I don't want to give my money to other people to keep my data on another server. Two, I don't want my data to be on someone else's system. Three, I don't want my data to be held for ransom.
My cloud is my own NAS. With 12TB space. I even backup my save-games on it.

QUOTE(Ukeke @ Dec 13 2025, 04:58 PM) How much for your nas 12tb FreeNAS using an older PC which can negate the cost. The only cost for the setup are the drives - which I bought from Shopee at different times. Sorry, I can't remember how much I spent for the drives, now. Maybe I'll look up my history of purchase.

It is your choice. But, treat this as friendly reminder. Cloud storage, service providers have backup. Anything happen to their hardware, your data still safe. Your own NAS, you must make sure that you always backup. May be you need to buy another 12TB NAS, put it in different location, and set both NAS to synchronize with each other over the internet. Otherwise, if anything happen to your NAS, your data is gone.

Cloud need fast internet access.
If too slow, new files won't sync to the cloud properly. Later full of duplicates.

Otherwise, if anything happen to your NAS, your data is gone. Actually, I do have 3 x 4TB drives with the most important data as a backup. ( 3 copies of my most important data in external drives.) I don't mind if the 4K movies and flac music are gone which are taking up the bulk in my NAS.. I don't believe in having only a single backup. When Dropbox started limiting free users the amount of space provided, and jacked up all the subscriptions across the board, that was the last straw that made me have my own personal NAS.
