A 16-year-old boy was found dead at a hill in Bentong on Tuesday (Dec 9) after he failed to return home from school, triggering a police search.

His mother later shared a heartbreaking post on Facebook, expressing sorrow over the loss.

    My heart hurts… Why didn’t you wait for Mummy a little longer?” she wrote.

Went missing after school

According to reports, the teen, Loh Zhong Kit, did not return home after school and couldn’t be reached by phone.

Concerned, his family filed a police report and Loh’s motorcycle was later discovered at the foot of Bukit Desa Damai, a hill located near his home.

Bentong Fire and Rescue Department confirmed on Facebook that they received a call regarding a missing person and launched a search-and-rescue operation.

With help from the police, the firefighters found Loh’s body and medical staff confirmed his death at the scene.

The cause of death is still under investigation, but early reports suggest it was due to suicide.

Possible suicide note found

Sin Chew Daily reported that a note believed to be a suicide letter was found near Loh’s body.

The Chinese daily also reported that he might have jumped off from a transmission tower located at the top of the hill.

His mother wrote another post yesterday (Dec 10), where she expressed deep grief over her son’s death.

    The time I spent with you was so short…I hope you live happily in heaven,” she wrote.

She also shared that Loh had lived with relatives after she got divorced from her husband, adding that Loh later lived with his father’s side of the family two years ago.

Hiked to ease sadness

Loh’s mother said that he enjoyed hiking, especially when he was feeling down.

She believes he may have gone to Bukit Desa Damai that day to find peace in nature, not knowing it would be his final journey.

The wake will be held today and Loh will be cremated tomorrow (Dec 12).
