But since the end of WW2, people slowly conditioned to hate war. Better to die in starvation slowly, then to die being bombed to pieces, so the logic goes. That's why people are conditioned to hate Hitler becos he was warmonger, but nobody hates Mao or Stalin even though they killed their own people by the millions, becos not war mongers.

My wife's great grandfather along with thousands of other Indian men were shipped to Burma to build the Death Railway. Only a handful made it back alive looking like the Jews who were liberated in Auschwitz, basically skeletons with their skin hanging on. Her great grandmother couldn't afford to feed her baby and her 7 year old kid (wife's grandfather), she starved to death, after her death, the baby kept crying due to hunger and later died. Wife's grandfather was the only one who survived after taking a train to get out of their town.
