VMware may be selling software but people buy it cause of their service. Without people to service the customer, people will be less inclined to buy.

it's not usually, but at least the support responds pretty quickly and is actually helpful.

That's  the folly of IT. Its about chasing the it things.
Now companies being extorted by these big tech  because they hold your data in their cloud. The next fad comes, will be bringing all that shit back on prem

Can see the trend.

QUOTE(RT8081 @ Dec 9 2025, 01:52 PM)
After the AWS incident, business folks realised their business is at the mercy cloud, and not cheap also to host due many variables (not just from OPEX, but other non cost related).

Hence the reverse.

I always thought it was stupid. Ironically, my career here was built on the virtual platform because I was hired to virtualised the functionality that they previously sold as a add-on hardware accelerator. Actually, it was great for the company because customers could try the software version and then started buying licenses for it. Even now that they are moving back to hardware platforms, they will still be using the software version rather than a add-on hardware accelerator, which has been discontinued.

QUOTE(brkli @ Dec 9 2025, 01:55 PM)
the VM using mean is cloud? coz you know.. there are still people who do self hosting on self own hardware running a hypervisor(vm host)
*
No, our customers a lot doing self-hosting due to sensitive data. Just recently, a couple of big ones started ordering lots of new hardware from us. We can't get enough chips for our platforms.

that is how finance and business ppl do stuff, they do not develop a product/own solution to sell. they buy ready made business/solution and make it theirs.

just like this.

Proxmox is pretty good if you're willing to learn how to configure/harden/manage with mostly documentation and forum help, not sure how resilient it is for production though, it has Ceph storage, but I'm not really knowledgeable about that part. Not sure if there's anyone in Malaysia that offers proxmox support for on-prem deployments.

I don't really know much about hyper-v outside of using it to run a linux vm that's not wsl on my work computer. It has issues with running some desktop environments that aren't common, like Cosmic DE, that's about the only thing notable I know.

Broadcom overpaid for the purchase. Now they need a fall guy executioner to perform the unfavorable right-sizing tasks

it's a dog eat dog world

i know one CEO kena like this

he removed anyone he doesnt like by asking them to resign. Some of them are the best performers who couldn't get along with him or constantly disagree with him. Surprise that no one complained him to Labour Office

few years later, he was removed from office by the board instead.

It's all business.
