It's better if you tried from the lowest tier car.

I have driven shit car like old Toyota van, old kancil, old sunny

When you drive the new axia(the first gen, not the latest), you will feel it such a huuuge upgrade.

old kancil to new kancil i trieded before

my driving instructor those EX kancil from late 1990s type lol . then the driving test time it was new facelifted kancil

but old toyolta camry beats a lot of newer car punya ride comfort.

dont buy new, buy used. If want to compare installment only, used car is worth it with few years left of warranty.

Sounds quite insane to me.

Let's say you earn RM240k a year and you buy a RM240k car, you literally have spent your entire year's worth of hard work just to buy something that brings you from point A to point B.

Imagine that, 1 whole year of suffering all goes into 1 thing.

If you consider this from a disposable income perspective, that's even worse! After reducing tax and all other living expenses for the year, you could be only left with RM5k a month and that's considering you aren't the spendthrift type. You would have spent at least 3 years of your life, working hard just to purchase that car. I discounted 1 year for bonus, increment, and investment income, which is more than generous.

What do you guys think? 3 years worth of blood sweat and tears for a car, worth it?

In reality, most Malaysian would actually be spending more than 5 years worth of blood, sweat, and tears on a car cause most either buy a car worth more than their 1 year salary, took long loans with high interest, or have a super low disposable income because of commitments.

A long time ago I bought my first car, a Kancil which was worth 2 times my annual salary. After adding HP interest of 7% for 7 years, it was 3 times my annual salary. That was the cheapest new car I could buy at that time without needing a guarantor. Having a car changed my family's life coz we never had our own transport before, it opened up possibilities for me in terms of where I could work. So it was worth it from that perspective.

But buying a 240k car when you make 240k per annum is just silly.

Why? The economics looks OK for the Malaysian market.
OK, let's change the metrics.

240k annual is about 20k a month.
A 240k is like a Toyota Camry.

If you earn 20k a month and buy a Camry, nobody bats an eye.

If we were dig back why 7 and 9 years loan were made available, it was to save national car maker during the economic downturn. Sales were bad and stocks weren't moving. All these are bailouts indirectly. If this scheme is not available, I am sure your Axia full blown AV spec still cost like a Axia kosong. And your Vios would take Persona's pricing. And at the top, those luxury cars too would be much cheaper. Banks needs these products to make money and government need these products as well to collect more money. And we haven't even talk about P1 and P2's existence yet. At the end, it's a systematic problem and rakyat are baked into it to feed the system.
