QUOTE(red_satu @ Nov 27 2025, 08:59 AM) Lol at the people at this thread thinking this is gonna tank. It's an adaptation being made by a Tony-nominated Writer & Director, starring a Tony winning Actress. even for west end, this is a bit too far out la, lolThough why are Hollywood fans are furious? It's not like they're gonna go to West End to see her perform.... black female dracula with a nose ring? |

QUOTE(red_satu @ Nov 27 2025, 09:50 AM) Why tho? West End is a place for experimentation, and a public domain work like Dracula is ripe target. Sure, why not. Theatre guys are more open to this stuff. That said, there was already a "Countess Dracula" stage adaptation: https://www.warnertheatre.org/fierce-female-dracula/ Not to mention the various comedic or musical stage adaptations that is pretty much anything goes. Or those that had on-stage simulated sex acts and stuff. Nothing is too far out for theatre. But practically, things are taken one step at a time. Just because the performers are comfortable with it, it does not mean that audiences will flock to see it. Then again, theatre folks can be more elitist than you imagine. Cynthia Erivo is not new to the West End. Great voice. I think back then she took on traditionally black women roles. Not sure if she can pull off dracula though lol. Edit: Nick Jonas also tried to be Marius in Les Mis, dude was nearly eaten alive by the others. It is one thing to expand your roles and not be typecast, but it doesn't mean that guys like Rowan Atkinson can become the Itallan Stallion after putting on some boxing gloves. Go watch some of it on youtube, then you will understand why that could work.https://www.theguardian.com/stage/2025/aug/...w-cynthia-erivo Then try to compare against Dracula. edit: lol ![]() This post has been edited by loserguy: Yesterday, 12:26 PM |

QUOTE(ReoAyanami @ Nov 27 2025, 12:28 PM) You should compare with the version of Dracula which Erivo will be in. A version that always had one woman playing all 23 characters. Donno, maybe it could work. Who knows. Good luck to her.https://www.theguardian.com/stage/article/2...theatre-trilogy |
