i cannot straight say they chose the worst CVT because i cannot say it's proton's fault or punch's fault

for me CVT is CVT....they want cheap i understand but what i don't understand is why the punch CVT they used isn't programmed to emulate 7 gear like every other CVT out there?
so it's proton's fault for not programming it like that or punch's fault for having this design flaw?

I rather S70 use 4AT

No point to emulate 7spd. Just be a CVT like scooter is fine. But for God's sake ditch the clutch based coupler, go with traditional torque converter with lock up clutch.

the 7 speed is for high speed low RPM which i find it odd
so far only 1 youtuber noticed this problem and tested it
it's not as bad as previously which is over 3k RPM at 110KM/H
now it's 2.7k RPM at 110KM/H

which is still high considering other CVT out there can do 2k RPM
that's the purpose of the 7 virtual gear....since CVT can emulate as many virtual gear as they want

Suspect need to finish the contract orders/ stock, still available due to lower than expected Iriz, Persona sales.

Punch new factory at Tg Malim definitely making the latest variants.

Emgrand is using 6AT. Which should still be cheaper than DCT

Edit: whoops, 2026 5th gen Emgrand also updated to 4-pot turbo
BHE15TD engine same as X50 with DCT as well to handle the power increase.

6AT is not cheap
that's why car makers rather use CVT or DCT

real 6AT is only reserved to expensive cars or D segment cars

for now, the only car makes that dare to put 6AT into their smaller cars are korean cars
that's only because they control and manufacturer everything themselves

Geely Emgrand gen4 has 1.5NA with 6AT.
Its considered low entry level sedan in China.

hyundai and aisin's 6AT is not cheap at all


and how much are those cars selling for

there's a reason why malaysians keep complaining it's "overpriced"...part of that cost went to the 6AT

I think money factor. punch cvt really cannot pakai one. why they dont get same supplier like myvi d-cvt..this punch cvt even improve still far behind competitors. maybe cheap cheap, so they opt for that
