Hi guys.

I'm interested to buy GAC car... test drove it and it was really good.
But there's a lot of bad comments about Tan Chong after sales service and warranty for Nissan.

Any Nissan/GAC/AION owners here...

The same goes to Toyota, ppl also critic UMW a lot yet their Toyota still top the chart.

Personally if u really like it, and have confident with them I think just go ahead. But since this is Chinese carmaker you need to be careful they can exit anytime they want like what Chery does before.

In my opinion if want to try Chinese car better stick to Proton, they are glued together with government and national pride in mind, even making losses they would still sell and operate which doesn't seem to be the case in recent days, instead they are getting stronger.

You should be getting better feedback by joining the model's FB group than on LYN

I've seen more GAC on the road in Shenzen instead BYD. (except taxy which by default is BYD M6).

been owning nissan car for 14 years. So far no issue with TC service center. They are efficient and pragmatic. Nothing special but nothing too bad also. Compared to other brands, they are quite lenient when it comes with warranty claims. Unlike some other brands that will void your warranty for very minor things like late 1 day for service, TC is rather easy going. My friend forgot to bring his car for service for 2 years. They still honor the warranty.

GAC group actually not bad, if you go do some research they are the one help assembly or CKD cars for Toyota & Honda in China.

Sadly maybe due to infamous Tan Chong reputation & poor marketing/pricing make it very less OTR. Their car design is quite futuristic tho.

I don't know where are the bad reviews on Tan Chong after sales service and Nissan. I was a Nissan owner back in 2008 (Sylphy 2.0), then changed to something else before coming back to Nissan again. My experience with both vehicle and Tan Chong has been pleasant. I had some minor issues with the Sylphy, I think it was bubble on the dashboard and got it replaced under warranty without hassle. I also had wind noise coming from the driver's windscreen, and the service centre took the trouble to fix it until there is no wind noise coming in at higher speeds. The service centre took the effort to resolve all complaints made by me. I find the customer service during that time to be great as they sent a letter to me after the incident apologising on the inconvenience and offered some gifts as a token of appreciation.

Fast forward to 2025 today, I believe things are different now as the company is in financial crisis. I have known about this earlier but still bought the Almera last year in 2024. So far there are no issues with the car but I did lodge a complaint on the noisy tyres with Tan Chong and they arranged for an inspection at the Continental tyre shop, attended by me and a staff from the Tan Chong who is manager level with a specific task of addressing complaints from customers. This includes dismantling all 4 tyres and testing them on some machine at the tyre shop, taking measurements on the thickness of rubber, rotating the tyres and test driving the vehicle. The whole exercise took up to half a day to accomplish. The customer service is still good today, as any complaints they don't brush it away and attended to all of them. I suspect this is partly because the number of vehicles sent to the service centres at Tan Chong are in low volumes and not many unlike Honda or Toyota service centres where it's all packed. Also, despite all the negative outlook outside, the service centre at Sungai Besi branch still provides free nasi lemak, curry puff and other kuehs on every mornings. Also the cost of service is very cheap for the Almera, even cheaper than Proton.

I think it's a gamble should you decide to go ahead with the GAC. Just lately I read about Tan Chong's plan of merging with Perodua, not sure if it will be in effect soon. If I'm in the market for another car, the Nissan Kicks is still the top choice for me as I can't find any competitor which I like other than the Kicks. I am guessing most negative reviews are from people who don't own a Nissan but read the reviews from somewhere else.

i never had any personal experience with Tan Chong, but nice to see some first hand (not to mention good) experience from owners amidst all the mud thrown on their name.
