SONGKHLA - The governor of this southern province ordered the total evacuation of Hat Yai district by Monday evening as flood levels continued to rise, boosted by record rainfall.
Governor Rathasat Cherdchu said everyone in all flood-prone areas of Hat Yai must move to shelters at Prince of Songkla University in Hat Yai district, Songkhla Rajabhat University in Muang district or the Second Naval Area Command in Muang district by 4pm on Monday. More shelters were later opened for evacuees at the Technical Promotion and Support Office and Thaksin University in Muang Songkhla district. Soldiers joined teams of rescue workers in vehicles and flat-bottomed boats evacuating people - many aged, infirm or ill - from flood-isolated areas. The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation said persistent rain and flood water water flowing from Khlong Hoi Khong district was expected to raise flood levels in Hat Yai by up to half a metre by midnight and by 1.25-1.45 metres by 6am on Tuesday. Flood water at the Hat Yai office of the Provincial Waterworks Authority was three metres deep and had already caused the shutdown of the tap water plant. The Royal Irrigation Department said the flood waters in Hat Yai were already from 50cm to 2.5m deep. The district also suffered under a record high daily rainfall, according to records dating back three centuries, with 335 millimetres on Friday last week and 630mm from Wednesday to Friday last week. According to the National Statistical Office about 405,000 people lived in in Hat Yai as of 2023, the latest figures available. https://www.bangkokpost.com/thailand/general/3143425/ |

You have to buy special perils or convulsions of nature to cover natural disaster like this which 80% of people won't buy, claiming they never drive in flooded areas.
For going to Thailand, you have to add extension cover to the kingdom of Thailand. Which 70% of the people have no idea about. Your standard insurance won't cover into Thailand. The compulsory insurance and voluntary insurance cover that you buy at the borders only covers third party bodily injury and property in Thailand. Easier to put it, it only covers people and property of Thailand, not yours. So yeah, as K like to put it. It's GG. If you did buy all the above covers, you can have your car towed from Songkhla areas to BKH border (free towing usually included in Thai voluntary insurance cover) and have your Malaysian insurer tow your car from BKH border to your preferred workshop for claims. We are very very very lucky, thank God. We have previously entered Thailand b4 when visiting our daughter who is studying at Unimap. On the 22nd, our daughter finished her convo on Saturday morning. We planned drive ourselves to Thailand but then we change our plans & contacted the MPV driver we had used b4. The driver said, don't enter Thailand because now the roads in & out are flooded. If our daughter's convo was on the 23rd or 24th @ 25th … maybe we would be with them now.
Yesterday we all arrived safely in Subang. |

People has been contacted him/her and wanted to save them, but he/she insist that the hotel is the safest place, so they decided to stay.. Crazy people nowadays..wanted to get likes and getting viralled. QUOTE Those who don't know the cause and consequences know that they have been scolding there. It was my own 530am message Alez. He asked me if I wanted to leave. I replied that the hotel was temporarily safe because a lady told me that if the hotel had electricity and food, stay inside the hotel, the hotel was safe, it was almost the same to go outside. There was at least some rest inside the hotel. There was electricity to charge the phone, there was a toilet We are also afraid, and we don't know what to do is the best. We are not just our own family. There are other family members. We came by car. After asking everyone's opinions, everyone decided to stay in the hotel first. I also have to go with the brigade. It is You are not at the scene, you don't know the situation here. The people who took the boat, some who capsized the boat halfway, some who couldn't move forward halfway because the water was too urgent and were forced back to the hotel. We have old people and children here. We don't know if there is life jackets in the boat, we will also worry about safety. That's why I said we are safe for the time being Later, we will post for help because our situation at that time was completely out of electricity and no food. The hotel said it would not turn on electricity and would not prepare food for us anymore. The water level never stopped and the rain never stopped. In such a situation, of course, we asked for help to get out of here! Because the situation is different. We did come down from 1 o'clock lobby until 7pm when it was dark and didn't see any boats coming. Only once came to deliver food but no crew was taken. There was no boat to save us. We don't get on the boat and waste resources. There are no boats here. There are dozens of people here who are trapped here and can't leave because no boats have come! No boats come our hotel wants to save us we don't get on the boat |

Or I still need to buy extension on the special perils as well? For Thai side insurance, you must buy the compulsory cover like usual, but do add the voluntary cover to protect you against third party claims like damage to houses, street post signs, barriers etc, vehicles. But then again, customers rarely listens. They only panic when faced with the above situation. Some don't even to purchase insurance through agents like us anymore. Prefer to go buy online to save on the little bit of commision. So they dont get interaction and advise from agents regarding these situation. I am pretty much aware of the extension, which I bought last time when I traveled to Thailand, fully agreed as your mentioned, 70% are not aware of this, maybe more. It does not cost a lot more, my case was about RM100 |
