Hello all, asking for advice here on whether I should just trade in my car ( free hassle ) or try to sell myself if I do purchase a new car.

I plan to get a new car next year, currently 2 of my old cars is a 04' Volvo S60, and a 06' Mitsubishi Oultander VRX, I did inquire to the salesperson of the car brand I want to buy, he said that trade in does not limit quantity, but the price they open will obviously be the lowest possible, since they are just simply selling to their secondhand car partner, so in this case, they quote me on surface 1K for the volvo, and "few Ks" for the mitsubishi, is it worth it to just trade in to them or try to sell myself in my situation ?

With such a volatile market now, you gonna be shock of what the price they trade in, even for Toyota & Honda also getting very low nowadays due to China cars competition. My advice sell your own in FB market/group, mudah.my etc website. Do own survey of the market average selling price.

I am also looking. A relative wants to buy my wife's 2023 Honda HRV V-Spec with 15k mileage, always service in Honda. Low mileage as I have a company car and only driven once or twice a week. Can a dealer pls contact me as my relative is purchasing via loan.

Selling yourself will get more. But dealing with buyer is not an easy thing.

Usually, salesperson will try to get high trade-in so you will buy new car from him. It is weird that he/she didn't try to get higher value. Maybe the car you want is in demand that he/she doesn't bother to entertain you.

I would ask another salesperson or a different car brand.

you can get more $$$ by selling the car yourself, however, be prepared to wait for months to get buyer. not to mention the need to entertain, ghosted, etc...

I guess the choice or decision will be dependent on your own preferences? No right or wrong as people can decide how they want to do it. If you are in no hurry to sell your cars, then you can slowly take your time to sell them on your own as surely this way will get you a higher price. It may take a bit more effort as mentioned above but if lucky, you may find a potential serious buyer and hence a quick sale without much fuss. If you want to cut all the hassle, you can of course trade it to the salesperson of the new car which you plan of buying. I previously do it this way as I traded in my car to buy a new car. Save all the hassle. Of course the trade-in price will be lower.

Also, if the car has a defective or damaged part which requires a high cost of repair, it may be wise to trade-in the vehicle to the used car dealer than selling it yourself.

So you have got a RM1k offer for the Volvo S60 year 2004. Interesting. Looks like there's not much value in an old Volvo.

Trade in during new car purchase is the simplest but lowest value unless cold new model eg Nissan, their salesperson might offer better rates.

Sell yourself need to deal directly with buyers / agents/ scammers - need to meet away from your house for safety purpose somewhere public.
Then need allocate 1/2 day get Puspakom cert after tearing away front and side tint.
Lastly go JPJ to execute transfer AFTER payment deposited best together w buyer.

Easier to drive to Carsome or Carro get quote, then surrender on the spot if price is right.

Been there done that on mudah. Not too bad and did encountered some joybuyers but after a few further chats, they tend to go off by themselves lol. For mine i just impose a deposit before test drive and voila no more joybuyers. Margin is like around 30k though so worth it.

Tried to sell 2011 Viva Elite Auto with no issues whatsoever. Put ads in Mudah, FB marketplace. Able to attract potential buyer from FB instead Mudah. But many just keep asking info only, so no bother cz not urgent to let go.

Then received whatapps/call from used car, which they offer cash, but kiv. Got free time send to Carsome for price inspection, totally turn off with the price, about 35% lower than Used car.

At last concluded with FB marketplace buyer at double the price of carsome offered.

I have sold the same car by myself .....listed it online, within a few days alot of ppl called...A few 2nd hand car dealers contacted me but I was not keen to deal with them as they dont sound trustworthy...The new owner was quite nice, she has her own agent. She paid the agent to handle the transfer. I even gave away half a bottle of engine oil to her...Back then no Carsome...We signed a simple agreement, 1 page drafted by her. After that, she dropped me back home.

My new experience doing all own self. Puspakom booking for Wangsa Maju branch on Saturday, for rm30+sst. Come 4pm, 445pm done.

Utilize my digital ID thumb scan at Tealive branch for myJPJ apps advance id upgrade, then able to perform ownership transfer via website - mysikap. All smooth process by Diy. Then new owner to come JPJ (if conventional) or follow my digital ID + mysikap website and pay rm100+ for ownership name change.

Ask agent from FB, both above he needs rm700
