DNB was 'established' for the cronies to make quick money. Nothing more. The rest is just a facade to make the 'project' looks good. That's it.

I tak faham lah

TM and TNB monopoly comms and electric

DNB monopoly what fark? 5G spectrum? Then TM do what fark pulak?

Clearly DNB is a big crony project from the start
*
It is to standardized 5G and speed up coverage extensions of 5G adoption.

It's like TM spread fibre to rural area at the expense of city area paying higher price.

Without TM rural area won't get fibre internet, no private company with a sane mind want to invest in low density area. Same concept for 5G infra. Development will only be focused at the profitable area like KL, JB and Penang. Other area get nothing.

For example look at time fibre which is truly private infra, it's cheap and fast but their service only limited to high density condo.

CelcomDigi, Maxis receive MoF Inc’s put option notice on DNB stake
Corporate News
Tuesday, 02 Dec 2025
1:33 PM MYT

KUALA LUMPUR: CelcomDigi Bhd and Maxis Bhd said they have received a put option notice from the Minister of Finance Inc (MoF Inc), requiring them, together with YTL Power International Bhd, to purchase MoF Inc’s ordinary shares in Digital Nasional Bhd (DNB) under the terms of the shareholders agreement (SHA).

In a filing with Bursa Malaysia, CelcomDigi said the put option notice issued on Dec 1 requires CelcomDigi, Maxis and YTL to purchase MoF Inc’s shares in DNB and take over its related loans, including accrued interest and the additional shareholder advance.

“The option price to be paid by each investor shareholder is RM327.87mil. Completion of the put option shall be within two months from the date of the put notice,” it said.

In a separate filing, Maxis said the notice similarly requires Maxis Broadband to acquire MoF Inc’s stake in DNB and assume its outstanding loan obligations on an equal basis.

It added that the option price payable by each investor shareholder is RM327.87mil.

“Each investor shareholder has been granted a period of two months upon receipt of the notice from MoF Inc. to complete the exercise of the put option,” Maxis said.

actually this is false, especially comparing the low frequency band apple to apple comparison
5g nr low frequency offer better latency, faster speed, more users per cell tower antenna, better connection for far end coverage

most of the marketing is only in the big stuffs that 5G can do because it generate more hype
what really 5G nr can do is to cover rural housing when fiber and copper infrastructure is expensive

as i know low frequency meaning moar/long coverage but low speed/quality

yes if you compare to higher frequency,
but if it's 4g low frequency like what we are using right now vs 5g nr low frequency, 5g nr is going to win no matter what

I am on 5G NR yet the speeds can be varied and sometime 20mbps

of course all MNOs will condemn, because their interests is on shareholders, not the general public. its like all malaysians condemn gov raising tax. nobody like tax hike but necessary given the right situation.

telcos has 4 generations to prove themselves that free capitalism will yield a good cheap price with wide coverage service. but they dont. its time for gov to change the way than keep repeating the same method again and again, hence the DNB. PH don't understand that concept, then they intro 2nd DNB.

dungu.

All telcos contributed 6% of their revenue to MCMC every year, purpose is for MCMC to choose the coverage they want in underserved areas to build sites … to put thing into perspective CD and Maxis only annual revenue RM10+12=22B per annum, that is RM 1B per annum not inclusive the others.

Why there is still area with poor coverage? MCMC needs to answer how they spend the money they pocket every year for coverage expansion.

MCMC every year announced their success story of how wide the Malaysia 2G/3G/4G coverage is … claiming credits of their great works managing telco to provide good coverage …

Also note that during 3G, MCMC awards spectrum to a new telco UM and TDC, left Digi behind During 4G, MCMC awards large chunk to Altel and Redtone instead of major telco.

It is not first time MCMC trying to be innovative, everytime ends with bailout i.e. Digi shareswap with TdC in 3G, CD rent spectrum from Altel, Maxis rent from Redtone. And now CD, Maxis and YES force bailout DNB.

Alternatively, it can also be viewed that MCMC been making 3 generations of mistake that end with forced bailout by major telcos… so arguably trade off potentially be on service price and coverage …

Conclusion, mistake by gov paid by end consumers for past 30 years …

Extra: If you view MCMC true success story on their tech awards, only UM made it as telco provider today, others either bailed out or gaji buta just renting their spectrum for major telco (no service offered):

3G > TDC, UM
WiMAX > P1, Yes, Asiaspace, Redtone
4G > Altel, Redtone
5G > DNB

a lot can affect the speed, example dnb & the gov only said yeah coverage in kl is 100%
but that doesn't tell the full story, since there are a lot of variables that can affect the user experience

two examples, assuming there's 10k 4G antenna in KL with 60% of utilisation compared to 5k of 5g nr antenna in KL with over 100% of utilization
of course when users are connected to 5g nr the experience is going to be bad when compared to 4G

but when you remove the variables, 4G vs 5G nr, low band and mid band, 5G nr always perform better than 4G low and mid band
and the only thing 4G doesn't have is high band that promise super fast internet connection, and of course that is the only one that get advertised the most

if someone really want to nitpick, then one of the huge disadvantage of 5G nr is more electricity usage compared to 4G regardless of band

time to dump this scam 5g

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 4 — Digital Nasional Berhad (DNB), Malaysia’s first 5G network, will soon transform into a fully private entity as the Ministry of Finance Inc (MoF Inc) has formerly exercised its Put Option to sell its remaining shares.

As reported earlier, the 3 remaining shareholders (CelcomDigi, Maxis and YTL) are expected to acquire the government’s remaining shares in the 5G wholesale network.

Malaysia’s 5G speeds have nearly halved as network comes under strain, Ookla reports

While nearly 80 per cent of speed tests are now conducted on 5G-capable devices, most users are still spending almost two-thirds of their connected time on 4G networks.

This is largely due to patchy indoor and rural coverage, which forces devices to fall back to the older network.
