Almost due to replace tyre on X70 19inch 225 55 R19

quite satisfied with current Continental UC6 SUV stock tyre. initially planning to replace with conti UX7, but the price is around RM900 each which is a bit steep.

surveyed a bit and stumbled Otani and Sunwide brand.

Wondered if these tyres are good?

Otani is RM400
Sunwide is RM300

https://www.lazada.com.my/products/pdp-i472....353d6a16J7UH6H

any thoughts?

the specs looks good. In total can save at least RM2k for 4 tyres compared to conti UX7

There are reason why it is cheap, a lot of comparison done in tyrereview even on actual track with data recorded.
Most cheaper tires they cost cheap due to poor performance mostly in wet braking & handling, thus why most tire shop will tell owners to be carefull driving during rain for budget tires.

Same, even budget performance tires also not up to standard when compared to established brands.

Take example Westlake Sport SA37, has a UTQG rating of 280 AA A

https://www.tyrereviews.com/Tyre/Westlake/Sport-SA37.htm

https://www.tyrereviews.com/Tyre-Tests/2020...r-Tyre-Test.htm
15th out of 20th
Acceptable dry handling.
Nervous handling in the wet, high noise level.

Much cheaper than the continentals. Don't risk it with trying obscure brands.

Performance wise, it is similar to Primacy 4, albeit slightly lower performance in aquaplaning resistance.

There are many mid range tire brand which got good performance like Hankook, Falken, Yokohama, Maxxis etc. brand. I tent to look for middlerange tires as usually they offer the best value:performance ratio

Check the eu label or UTQG.

UTQG is treadwear, traction and temperature. For this standard
Treadwear choose those treadwear more than 300. This means the tyre can last about 48k km +- (treadwear 300 is measure in miles). But it is based on normal diving behavior, heavy footer racer maybe get only 25-30k km while gentle driving may goes up 60k km +-.

Traction is VERY important. Never pick the traction C or below. Even better don't take traction B because most tyres nowadays are either AA or A. This is grip level and this is important as Malaysia is in tropical zone with lots of rain. It is good only take AA or A traction tyre.

Temperature always pick A grade. Nowadays basically do not have or very least with B grade.

Or can check another standard, the eu label. Fuel efficiency (or energy efficiency), wet grip and noise.

Fuel efficiency - this concern is not high for ICE, but it is very crucial for EV. For EV should only pick A or B grade.

Wet grip - only select A grade or the least is B. The B grade is already quite poor gripping in wet. There are number of tyres are in C grade. This is because this C grade is suit for 4 seasons countries as the tyre can provide some level of grip in snow ice surface. Those A grade in wet grip is good for wet road but it is extremely poor on ice. Water and ice are different situation

Noise leve - pick A or B only. C grade is extremely poor

Many Chinese brands have the EU label. You can check the EU label before buying the tyre.

The traction rating is not accurate tho for each different tire manufacturer. As per feedback few post before, i got highlight even Westlake Sport SA37, has a UTQG rating of 280 AA A also not vey good in wet condition during actual test. Is better to check for independent test report like those from tyre review comparing few actual tires on the same testing ground/facility for a more fairer comparison.

https://www.consumerreports.org/cars/tires/...0the%20warranty.

Summary: UTQG ratings are not entirely accurate because manufacturers self-report the grades based on limited testing, which allows for manipulation and a lack of standardization between brands. The treadwear test is conducted only for 7,200 miles, requiring manufacturers to extrapolate the results, and they are allowed to under-report a tire's potential life to provide a lower, more competitive number for that specific model.

The AA grading is somehow tricky because some budgets brands are playing trick on this. Like achilles tyres they have 1 tyre pattern (forgot the name) the rating is AA. Yes the wet grip is good when the tyre is new, but after 20% usage the wet traction slump. This is reported by many car enthusiasts.

For UTQG it is US standard but many tyre brand can play trick on it. But at least do not buy the tyre with treadwear below 300 if we hope for 40k km lifespan. Those treadwear 400 we can expect 40k km +-.

It is always good that we can check the tyre review online before buying the tyre. However most Chixx or south east asia tyre brands do not have testing result because they are cap ayam brand. In China if we have money we can ask the OEM factory to put the brand name like littlefire tyre or autodriver tyre and sell it to Malaysia. Best part is both brands same bunga, sidwall, all the tyre content are exactly same because from the same factory.

Yes, that why always do some research or check for independent reviews before purchase 1.
Dont always rely from tire shop or someone clamming it is god like good on paper or tire without any other reference to verify/compare.
