Old school small tiles are troublesome to install or maintain. IMO, just renovate the whole bathroom to modern style with 1'x1' or 2'x1' tiles. Then one by one renovate the other bathrooms to match.

buy new tiles, make pattern....

they gonna hack in vertical and horizontal line right? Just retile the line in slightly darker tile for 4 wall, make it into pattern. It will be weird if 1 wall, but if 4 wall it become a feature, design language
