Whenever we ask him what's your friends name he said I dont know.

We went just spoke to him teacher and showed them the assessment. Frankly they we really puzzled. Their feedback

1. From their observation it is not as bad as the assessment
2. He knows his friends name
3. He is pretty ok. For sure there are some issues like he usually can't carry a conversation he just like to answer yes or no
4. He can tell stories.
5. He can read not fluent but I am happy.

They think maybe this 1 hour assessment is not wholesome enough or that he is not comfortable with the therapist.

Anyway we intend to send him for a clinical test. Called sunway,  next appointment is in March. My eye pop out. Wtf.....

Frankly we drop the ball. We were laissez-faire on my second kid. Lots of screen time, hand feed until recently. Bathe him etc.

But in the last 2 weeks we stop the screen time ( as much as possible)  he feed himself bathe etc, can see improvement.

I am hopeful. I just want the best for him and help him to catch up. With a proper diagnosis we hope he will get a targeted help he needs.

But they are usually quite busy so you might not get an immediate consultation.

In 2 weeks after change of lifestyle u can see improvements, that is actually really good news. I think its best u stop screen time entirely and bring him out to the park, let him touch plants, insects, play with pet cat / dog to open up his eyes and curiosity.
Nutritional meals are very important too. Cut out sweet drinks, sweets and feed fresh meals.
Seriously kids show nowadays are so fast paced, full of actions and noises. Even i feel blur when i watch it too long. My brain basically just stopped thinking and just follow the flow of the cartoon. Its addicting but in a bad way.

So it is not due to cognitive development?

it can be overcome with parental training and guidance? if this is so, is good news.

Dono la. For this reason I plan to send him for a proper assessment.

I would suggest limiting screen time because that helps the kid to regulate themselves internally. Speaking from experience with my 3yo kid.

Yeah wait min 6 months some 18 month when I called.

It's really crazy. But I manage to make an appointment next month at price court. Thanks a lot of this tips. Else I wouldn't be able to make it. Many many thank bro!!!!

afaik sunway got another Dr Khoo Chai Soon, but only can see patients until age 5. Had ideas of bringing kid here since she takes a long time to settle from her tantrum, but I attribute it to her developing brain. As long as she's not sot like her mummy can d 😢

I also called Dr khoo. Next available date is March 2026

Biggest problem is screen time. That's what I observed. And as parents I am guilty of it

You can moderate screen time by engaging with your kid as the video plays. That's what I used to do with my kid when I was WFH. I can't take that chance anymore unfortunately.
