If you have any referral or experience pls do share.

Basically looking for a clinical Dr for maybe consultation and assessment.

I went to a child psychologist. She did a 1 hour assessment and came up with a report.

I have doubt if 1 hour is sufficient. I am not running from fact just want more answer and confirmation for something that I am not family and surely need help on.

Kids - 6 years old. Area Kuala Lumpur.

So if you have any clinic to refer to really appreciate it.

Remember to apply OKU card for your child as well. Not to berate anyone but that OKU card really got tonnes of perks. At the very least , you dont have to pay for street parking under majlis bandaraya in selangor state.

My close friend when he was young , his parents apply for him. He was diagnosed with " slow learning difficulty" , and got his OKU card from jabatan kebajikan masyarakat. From outside , he looks normal. Zero physical disability. Now got masters degree already at 30+ yrs old.

Well everyone develop at a different rate, the data shows us what is the average. Surely, there are people not in the normal range.

but that doesnt mean it's a bad thing, let kid develop and explore themselves

But they are usually quite busy so you might not get an immediate consultation.

OKU can buy medical insurance? No point getting a bit here and there but no medical cover.

1 hour is quite long. las time my kids didnt even need half hour coz verbal assesment not able to do. stick to a child development specialist. they'll guide u n suggest u wat can b done etc

usually child psychologist have to make several months in advance booking. Not easy to get.

before you go, you need a GP to refer, which you can get from any clinic.
It's quite a thorough examination, around 3-4 hours.
for full paying patients (approx Rm1k) the appointment can be had within a month.
If referral with OKU card definitely cheaper but waiting can be up to 1 year.

I'd do low hanging fruit stuff first, if you haven't. Such as, hearing and eyesight test. Also can consider doing an assessment at https://dyslexiamalaysia.org/

Get a referral letter to see Consultant Development Paediatrician at any of the hospital that has this expertise to get proper diagnosis;

government Hospital like Hospital Tunku Azizah (HKL) also do have the expertise but since its government, longer appointment date is expected

Damn. Thought of making appointment at Pantai. Most of it are only open 2 days in a week.

We have decided to get a clinical assessment instead of a visual 1 hour assessment. Then only the therapy will be targeted.

Here is the funny thing

Whenever we ask him what's your friends name he said I dont know.

We went just spoke to him teacher and showed them the assessment. Frankly they we really puzzled. Their feedback

1. From their observation it is not as bad as the assessment
2. He knows his friends name
3. He is pretty ok. For sure there are some issues like he usually can't carry a conversation he just like to answer yes or no
4. He can tell stories.
5. He can read not fluent but I am happy.

They think maybe this 1 hour assessment is not wholesome enough or that he is not comfortable with the therapist.

Anyway we intend to send him for a clinical test. Called sunway, next appointment is in March. My eye pop out. Wtf.....

Usually you have to wait 6 months to get this kind of doctor.

He is 6yo ? Can read ? ok what.

He only can say yes or no, maybe he is shy.

So exactly what is the issue? Doctor think he has dyslexia?

When he plays with say knife. He told him cannot. It's dangerous. Ke ask why. Then explain again he still ask why. We suspect he dont understand or chose not to understand.

He also can't carry a conversation. Maybe its expectation [I hope it is] but he seems to be a very blur kid.

The earlier assessment put him at age 1.5 year old on cognitive.

did you try to sit down with him, to teach him?

I do this with my kid, when he was a baby, I fervently show him flash cards.

I taught him A-Z at 2yo

At 4yo he can do addition and subtraction

This is because i sit down with him every night 45 min each to teach him.

Frankly we drop the ball. We were laissez-faire on my second kid. Lots of screen time, hand feed until recently. Bathe him etc.

But in the last 2 weeks we stop the screen time ( as much as possible) he feed himself bathe etc, can see improvement.

I am hopeful. I just want the best for him and help him to catch up. With a proper diagnosis we hope he will get a targeted help he needs.

Specialist would have to wait quite long as others have stated.
In 2 weeks after change of lifestyle u can see improvements, that is actually really good news. I think its best u stop screen time entirely and bring him out to the park, let him touch plants, insects, play with pet cat / dog to open up his eyes and curiosity.
Nutritional meals are very important too. Cut out sweet drinks, sweets and feed fresh meals.
Seriously kids show nowadays are so fast paced, full of actions and noises. Even i feel blur when i watch it too long. My brain basically just stopped thinking and just follow the flow of the cartoon. Its addicting but in a bad way.
