Wanna ask about Apple Earpods wired 3.5mm version.

Is it compatible with normal (modern) computer or Android phones with 4-pole TRRS 3.5mm? My concern is the microphone channel. Last time apple TRRS is different from non-Apple TRRS. Something about the mic wiring is on the ring or shield of the TRRS 3.5mm plug. How is the situation today?

Reason I ask is mainly about compatibility.
- Buy Apple earphones. Mic not working on non-Apple device.
- Buy non Apple headphones. Mic not working on Apple device.

My old office PC case has 1 mic and 1 stereo-out 3.5mm ports. Classic red and green 3.5mm design. If I buy an adaptor like the one below, it may or may not work with Apple earphones?

iinm the 3.5mm jack configuration is the same for all version of the earpods.
So yes the microphone compatibility issue will still be the same.

probably the truth. it's weird that different users give contradicting answers.

bruh, i dunno... totally not from my own use case?

the only time the mic doesnt work is when those desktops comes with split 3.5mm jacks. in laptops ive been using every single brand ever since i lived, and none of them ever had any mic problems with apple earset plugged in

Btw they do sell apple (omtp) to standard jack converter (ctia).
This could solve the earpods microphone compatibility issues.
Worth to check it out.

After more research, I found out that the TRRS issue is no longer an issue today. Decades ago, old Nokia or smartphones 3.5mm had ground on the sleeve. But today, all modern design have mic on the sleeve (regardless of Apple or non-Apple).
