QUOTE
Ultras are a specific type of sports team supporter group. They are mostly European and South American supporters of football teams.

This particular fan subgroup first appeared in Italy during the late 1960s when football teams reduced ticket prices in certain areas of the stadiums. The word ultra is Latin, which means radical in English. Since the early 1990s, the ultras subculture has increasingly become similar in style to the hooligan firm and casual cultures.Violent acts of hooliganism by groups of ultras have led to some deaths.

Ultra groups are usually based around a core group (who tend to have executive control over the whole group), with smaller subgroups organized by location, friendship or political stance. Ultras tend to use various styles and sizes of banners and flags with the name and symbols of the group. Some ultra groups sell their own merchandise such as scarves, hats and jackets. The ultra culture is a mix of several supporting styles, such as scarf-waving and chanting. An ultra group can number from a handful of fans to hundreds, and often claim entire sections of a stadium for themselves.

The four core points of the ultra mentality are:

never stop singing or chanting during a match, no matter what the result
never sit down during a match
attend as many games as possible (home and away), regardless of cost or distance
loyalty to the stand in which the group is located (also known as the Curva or Kop).

Ultra groups usually have a representative who liaises with the club owners on a regular basis, mostly regarding tickets, seat allocations and storage facilities. Some clubs provide the groups cheaper tickets, storage rooms for flags and banners, and early access to the stadium before matches in order to prepare the displays. Some non-ultras have criticized these types of favoured relationship. Some spectators criticize ultras for never sitting during matches and for displaying banners and flags, which hinder the view of those sitting behind. Others criticize ultras for physical assaults or intimidation of non-ultra fans.

Pardon me...i didn't read the complete post before posting. If you've read in papers, there are some ultras in Italy and some in Spain that creates trouble more than supporting the team. These are the ones that does monkey chants, fight with away team fans and things like that. I didn't meant the ultras like the ones you posted here.

@giotto : the concept we wanna try to implement at malaysia is try to build a banner or chants together to support malaysian team. that all at least when malaysia play at Bukit Jalil or shah alam we can show that we still love our Football rite. that all we are not a trouble makers just a group of people who excited to see malaysia improve in football even do rite now Malaysia is not respectable team in Asia if you compare 20 years go. smile.gif

ya but u need to think also how to spark people to come to stadium. with our currently national team you think this can be done?

In Malaysia Football is still Sport not Culture like at europe or south america.

u try imagine

from ten people i meet and ask them to watch football at stadium only 2 or 3 will say why not i join u but almost of them have same attitude to say

better watch EPL then Malaysian game

Last game i go to watch Malaysia play is Malaysia vs Bahrain and only 1 - 2 k viewer only . did u feel sad? at least they play in that match and try to get a goal even do they draw they deserve to have applause from us because the attitude they show to win better then (MYTEAM vs Indonesia)

so at least from my point of view we try to put some other interesting except in football field with some CAPO / TIFO display when game start at least we try to motivate our player to win.

- sorry if you think this is kinda disturbance but mostly of our Malaysian dont have anymore mentality to support Malaysian Football they willing to watch if that team just win but when they lost they just boooo at least show some support that we will willing to improve our football same level when Allahyarham SuperMokh still alive.

I'll definitely join. The team need us. Imagine if we can make some noise (like Anfield during European nights maybe) the opposition team will be sort of scared coming here, plus maybe it'll give a moral boost to our team as well. But to do that is not easy. First we need quite a number of dedicated supporters, thousands perhaps, the ones who will come to the matches and are willing to sing all night long. Then it comes to the seating areas, these ultra loud supporters should have their own section(s) for the singing and banners etc. Those who don't want to join the singing may perhaps sit at other designated areas. Not to forget to have a supporters club who'll go to the away friendly matches supporting the team. But it's just so easy to say and make plans. Plus I don't think AFC itself up to the standard. There's no properly organized friendly matches like our European counterparts. We only have the friendlies when there's nearing a big tourney or so where else the Europeans have it consistently over the year. And it'll be very frustrating just to go to the stadium for like 3-4 matches only a year, and sometimes people are not aware if there's a match going on in the stadium. It'll be like a short term effect only. That's one big thing to consider about.

Football 'Ultras' or 'Firms' are not actually just bcoz of their local football teams, its more on the pride of where they live. However, they do originates form their football teams..over here, the non-existant of 'Ultras' is probably for us Malaysians, theres more in life than football

I'd rather called it a hardcore fan club rather than the term "ultra" - it's has been sadly tainted by needless violence. Maybe FAM need to setup a specific part of the National Stadium for the more hardcore chanting and supporting fans like the Kop-end or Strefford-end. Setup and organise a better administered fan club and work close together. Sadly i think it'll take forever to get things started with the current sad state of football in Malaysia. I gave up hope a long time ago. sad.gif

Ultra is completely different than hardcore fan. Based on the reply i think some of you didn't really understand what Ultra movement is. Any sane, educated, well raised person wont be an Ultra.
Some of them are neo-nazi, they use football as tool for their propaganda. They use football to recruit young kids into their movement. Some of those ultra movements are based on politics.

They are what u call mat rempit here in malaysia, or you can name any other underground movement. Heck they even kill ppl, there are many cases of death involving ultra in europe. One example, in the 90's they found a dead body near Riazor(Deportivo stadium) the morning after the match. It was believed to be done by an Ultra. They extort money from ppl, even they're own fans who're supposed to be their brothers.

Some club like FC Barcelona banned the Boixos Nois( their ultra movement ) from entering the stadium. Later they threaten to kill Laporta for that. Seriously you dont need to be an Ultra to show your love for the club. Most European i met in other forums really hates Ultra, unless he's an Ultra himself.

i think malaysian football needs us. to back them up and to support them. at least we have to do our part as a football fan.

indonesian football isn't that far ahead from us. but look at their supporters..how they shook gelora bung karno stadium during the asian cup. amazing scene. if i were the opponent, id be shaking man.....how fired up they are by saying "ini kandang kita" meaning this is our home!! soo inspiring and they did quite well during the tournament.

id be a malaysian ultra..if not us..WHO?
