I sprayed screen cleaner on my Vivo V9 screen and wiped it with a microfiber cloth. The next day, it started showing a ghost effect, then vertical lines, and eventually change its color. Which one should i choose: sending it to a technician for repair or buying a new Redmi Note 14 5G (within my budget)? I'm worried the technician might do something suspicious to my Vivo V9 during around the repair which takes about 30 minutes and costs around RM150. I also can't use CIMB OCTO because my Vivo V9 doesn't support Android 10 and above. Should i switch to another bank like Maybank without buying new phone?

Just buy a European brand HMD Fusion. RM850 with 50MB selfie cam n 108MB main camera with Android One 15. OLED Screen sappork gesture selfie someone
In the future spray the screen cleaner onto a tissue or clean cloth to lightly moisten it, and then wipe the phone screen with it. Spraying directly onto the phone screen is just asking for trouble.
Go get a new phone with the latest or 2nd latest version of android.
Ewww. Looks exactly the sake except for the roundish camera box. Still considering to upgrade for RM520 or not. The rest compajy subsidize. Currently my banking app phone is Aifon 15.. Up for upgrade in Jan. Might get one just to sell it off at much lower level rice to one of my brothers.

1. Get a new phone within your budget 2. Go to any CIMB branch or call them to assist you in unlinking the phone to your acc, then link with new phone.
I don’t want a 720p phone. How about Redmi Note 14 5G?
QUOTE(incognitroll @ Sep 15 2025, 02:01 PM)
the phone is under 200 now, fixing it would probably cost the same or more and why would the technician feel the need to do anything suspicious to it?
The repair costs around RM150. Will the technician install an unknown device to track my phone usage during the 30 minute repair? Does such technology exist?

for me sure upgrade, its the best value iphone currently. of coz if u dont care all of that then no point. 120hz display, bigger 6.3inch display, cameras (if u care), faster a19 vs a16, AI (its garbage rn), better battery life, at least 6-7 years of os update

if your phone's locked with biometrics or a password, they can't get in.

I used to spray screen cleaner directly on my Samsung Note 3 screen sometimes and never had any problems. Previously I sprayed screen cleaner onto a microfiber cloth before cleaning my Vivo V9 screen and it was fine. This time I sprayed the cleaner directly on it and it suddenly developed problems. I don’t know it is so sensitive to moisture.

I always lock my Vivo V9 phone with a password. The technician can let me monitor during the 30 minute repair work. I'm worried the technician might remove its parts and install unknown components that could track my phone usage. Is that possible?

Redmi Note 15 has a curved screen and i don’t like it. I think I'll choose to replace my Vivo V9 screen since it's still usable.
I'll also create a new Maybank account as MAE by Maybank2u doesn't require android 10 or above. This way, I can keep CIMB for saving larger amounts of money without much spending and use Maybank for online transactions. Is this a good idea?

It wont be long until MAE will require at least android 9. I dont think it worth it to repair a 7 years phone, and u r taking a risk on the quality of parts/repair work as well.

not a good idea. very soon all banks will stop support older android. you will have to replace eventually. thus, instead of repair at 150, might as well buy a rm300 phone. later when you change other phone, at least the rm300 phone still usable
go ahead with RN14 5G. its a good phone with decent price. if possible, go for RN 15 (with android 15)

how much is the replacement? basically not a good idea if you intend to use banking apps on this phone. it may last you only a while before the apps got updated and required newer android version to function.
security wise, you are on your own as well, android 9 is missing a lot of security feature that leave you venerable to malware or malicious apps acesss.
if you just want to keep this phone as you are "happy" using it. by all means, go fix the screen and use for basic stuff like whatapps and light browsing or use facebook apps etc.
not recommended for banking usage, even via browser.

that's what I said earlier, but I think he is being penny wise pound foolish in this situation.
hp is part of our modern life now, spending around rm1K for a good mid spec phone every 3-4 years is a norm these days . even if you save rm240 per year which translate to rm 20 per month saving, which is less than rm1 per day. you can actually setup a moneybox for that.

The screen replacement costs RM150. I can log into my CIMB account using the outdated version of CIMB OCTO even though I can't update to the latest version. I haven't tried online transactions with it for a long time. Do you think i can still receive SecureTAC notifications after performing an online transaction using the outdated version of CIMB OCTO?
HyperOS is the current UI of Xiaomi, used to be Mi UI. What I'm getting saying is that the official Malaysian Xiaomi phones will work properly with google play and google apps unlike the imported chinese versions which are bad because they have to use hacks to get google play to work and theres more embedded spyware in the firmware.
Do you know which other banks require Android 10 or above?

Thats why i pointed to Redmi 15. Because the note really does not differ much at all from the regular one. You also need to pay a few hundred more for few mm increase of screen size and fast charging. Redmi 15 seems to be much more good value than note now because of this. Note used to have better processor and all. But because the specs are already peaked between these 2 models than opting for the cheaper one is no brainer.

It is hard to say. once the bank enforce the new apps, they will likely block you out. i.e prevent login or maybe not able to open the app anymore until you update. but you can't update due OS no longer supported by the apps.
if i were you, i will just get a budget Samsung A07 (or previous model A06) as replacement, at least Samsung side promises 6 years/iteration OS update, which can bring you quite far. you can get it online during sales like 11.11 or 12.12 which can get is even cheaper. spending RM500+ on this is way better return than your RM150 replacement for the screen. you still have warranty and future proof, while your RM150 provide only new screen with no guarantee of anything else.

Do you have a source confirming that MAE will require Android 10 or above in the future? My Vivo V9 is still usable and it just has a screen problem. The link you gave me is not for Redmi Note 15. Vivo V60 is beyond my budget. I can create a new Maybank account since MAE doesn't require Android 10 or above without changing my Vivo V9.
Stupid, stupid decision. Save RM100-200 but open yourself to risk of hacking when the security updates run out. Banks require you to update not because they pakat with phone company to sell you new phone.
Buy new phone that have the longest security updates support if you want to save money. A new Samsung for example ÷ 6 years is still much cheaper than new redmi ÷ 4 years of support
+1
Redmi 15 with SD 6s Gen 3 is a good choice actually

I saw on the webpage that the recommended OS version is Android 13 not Android 9.

So having more Android OS updates is more important than design, comfort, and performance?

for TS budget, I think this one also OK
I checked that A17 has 6 major Android OS upgrades compared to Redmi Note 14 5G which has only 2. Does that mean i should choose A17? But i don’t like the notch and bezel design.

depend on you. if you intend to use this for a long time and want to be able to continue received apps update, then yes. as most apps will not conitnue to develop for older OS.
but if you change new phone like every 2 years, then no difference really..

If I buy Redmi Note 14 5G, the Android OS updates will last until 2029 so I can use it for about four years. Where should I buy it? From a Xiaomi authorized store or a reputable multi brand phone store offering a RM100 discount from a recent promotion?

Cannot lah aifon. Everything cannot do. I need freedom on my phone. Aifon extremely restricted n the least productive phone. You just go count how many clicks just to faking delete one SMS! Wtf!
HMD was producing Nokia phones for almost ten years. Now people know them, they are producing phones under their own brand.
HMD human mobility devices is from Finland also. They had one XR Nokia phone made in Europe, Romania to be exact.
My hmd phones look like this. Total n utter freedom!
I don’t want a 720p phone. How about Redmi Note 14 5G? The repair costs around RM150. Will the technician install an unknown device to track my phone usage during the 30 minute repair? Does such technology exist? .......
Phones nowadays have a maintenance mode to protect user privacy and to ensure your apps/storage data cannot be changed. The servicing technician only have access to stock apps or profile and any changes will be deleted when you log in later. Iphone/Samsungs and some Chinese brands have this function now. Samsung was the first to roll out this function a few years ago.

Should i switch to another bank like Maybank without buying new phone?
buy new phone please a decent mid-spec phone doesnt cost you a bank
RM1000-RM2000 can get very good spec phone already, that can tahan 2 years.
