Vaping in mid-air from KL-KK lands 30-year-old medic in court, RM5,000 fine, and a four-month jail term

KOTA KINABALU, Sept 13 — An offshore medic was fined RM5,000, in default, four months’ jail by a Magistrate’s Court here today for vaping in a flight.

Mohd Yasir Dullah, 30, pleaded guilty before magistrate Dzul Elmy Yunus, to using a battery-powered electronic device to smoke on the flight from Kuala Lumpur to Kota Kinabalu on September 8.


The offence was under Regulation 100(1) of the Civil Aviation Regulations 2016 and punishable under Regulation 206(2), which carries a maximum fine of RM25,000 fine, a year’s jail, or both, on conviction.

The prosecution told the court that cabin crew detected the smell of smoke in the aircraft cabin and traced it to Yasir, who was seated at 31C.

It's getting very common to smell vape in flight.

Hope KKM also enforce this in restaurants! Too many people smoking in restaurants already, customers smoke, workers smoke, now boss also smoke in front of big No Smoking Sign!

I realise the issue with vaping is ppl tend to think it is okay to do it indoor since doesn’t involve lighting it up. Over the time its behind a habit to the person 1 or 2 indoor pump okay la…

That's why I think vape is worse than cigarettes - vapers just suka2 steal a few puffs here and there when they're indoor.

if such heavy penalties apply to those who smoke indoor air con environment or at restaurnat.... will there still be sohais who smoke where they like?

All Vape devices should be banned in flights...that means Not allowed to be carried on board by the passenger. All vape devices must be checked in!
If they are stubborn.... then remove them from the flight.
