Vaping in mid-air from KL-KK lands 30-year-old medic in court, RM5,000 fine, and a four-month jail term
KOTA KINABALU, Sept 13 — An offshore medic was fined RM5,000, in default, four months’ jail by a Magistrate’s Court here today for vaping in a flight.
Mohd Yasir Dullah, 30, pleaded guilty before magistrate Dzul Elmy Yunus, to using a battery-powered electronic device to smoke on the flight from Kuala Lumpur to Kota Kinabalu on September 8.
The offence was under Regulation 100(1) of the Civil Aviation Regulations 2016 and punishable under Regulation 206(2), which carries a maximum fine of RM25,000 fine, a year’s jail, or both, on conviction.
The prosecution told the court that cabin crew detected the smell of smoke in the aircraft cabin and traced it to Yasir, who was seated at 31C.
