yes, actually malaysia or vietnam are better option for apple assembly. I think tim cook also knows that, but India has its advantages, which tim sees this as a move to secure the india market which has 1.45b people.

if india is able to reach 50% of china's current gdp within 5-8 years, then its a win already for apple.

As india has the highest tariff on product not produce in India, which is why all the phone manufacturer like samsung, xiaomi, oppo, realme also has assembly factory in India.
